This information was highlighted by Lieutenant Colonel Nguyen Thang Long, Deputy Head of the Staff Department of the Ho Chi Minh City Police, at a press conference on the afternoon of December 19th.

According to a representative from the Ho Chi Minh City Police, regulations allow citizens to use fireworks manufactured by the Ministry of National Defense, which bear an anti-counterfeiting QR code. When purchasing the product, consumers can verify its authenticity by scanning the QR code on the fireworks.

In addition, representatives from the Ho Chi Minh City Police Department advised people to buy only the amount of fireworks they need for their intended use, and not to buy large quantities for stockpiling.

When using fireworks, follow the manufacturer's instructions and do not use fireworks near areas containing highly flammable or explosive materials.

Do not use fireworks indoors or in covered spaces; ensure the area above is clear and free of obstructions, power lines, etc. After the fireworks have finished burning, allow them to cool for at least 15 minutes, or wet them to remove any remaining embers before disposing of them in the trash.

Crimes involving the illegal use of fireworks increase during the Lunar New Year holiday.

Providing further information, Mr. Long stated that during the last months of the year and leading up to the Lunar New Year, criminal activities of various types will increase. In particular, complex developments related to the illegal buying, selling, transporting, storing, and using of fireworks will tend to escalate.

To prevent and combat the aforementioned crimes, Mr. Long said that the Ho Chi Minh City Police have launched a campaign to raise awareness and encourage all citizens to surrender and combat illegal activities related to weapons and explosives, contributing to ensuring security and order during the Lunar New Year of the Year of the Snake.

Also at the press conference, a representative from the Department of Culture and Sports informed that the city plans to hold fireworks displays to celebrate the Lunar New Year of the Year of the Snake; initially, there are three planned locations, including two high-altitude and one low-altitude location, or possibly more locations, as the city organized six fireworks displays for the public during the 2024 Lunar New Year.
