In a letter to the Board of Directors and officers of the Fire Prevention and Rescue Police Department, Ho Chi Minh City Police, she wrote: "If it weren't for the soldier who promptly pulled and carried the child, I don't know where the child would be now, or if he would still be in this world or not."

The incident occurred at around 1:05 p.m. on November 25, when officers and soldiers were helping clean up and give relief gifts to people in the Central region to overcome the consequences of storms and floods, a container truck suddenly crashed straight into the working group's area.

At that moment of life and death, soldier Nguyen Mai Thi discovered that V.Th.Tr. was driving a motorbike in the same direction as the container truck. Without hesitation, he rushed forward, hugged and pulled the child out of the danger zone.

Immediately after that, the container truck hit the curb and crashed into a lamppost. The impact caused the steel lamppost to fall and hit Lieutenant Colonel Nguyen Quang Minh, Deputy Captain of the Fire Fighting and Rescue Team of Area 19, who was regulating and protecting the safety of the area. He suffered multiple injuries and had to be hospitalized. The container truck only stopped after continuing for nearly 100 meters.

After a video of the dangerous situation was recorded by a resident near the area and posted on social media, there were many compliments, emotions, and comments thanking the brave actions of soldier Mai Thi and sending condolences, hoping that Deputy Captain Nguyen Quang Minh will get well soon.
