Duy scored 800/800 in both Math and Reading. He said he was very happy and surprised with the results: “When I left the exam room, I felt like I could get a perfect score, but I was still not sure. While waiting for my score, I kept thinking about the questions that I could get wrong, so I was both worried and nervous. When I got the results, I really couldn’t believe it,” Duy said.
According to the male student, to do well on the SAT, candidates must not only have a foundation in English but also know how to think and reason. However, the questions on this test are not as difficult as some of the questions on the high school graduation exam.
Duy believes that to conquer the SAT exam, candidates do not necessarily need to have a very high level of English. At the end of last year, Duy achieved 7.0 IELTS, of which only 6.5 in Reading skill. The male student believes that the secret to his impressive results is largely thanks to perseverance, effort and especially "not giving up".

In the first SAT test, Duy only scored 1,250 points. “I actively practiced with sample tests and question types. For questions that I got wrong or found difficult, I created a separate file to review where I had gaps in knowledge, made mistakes or misunderstood the meaning. When I discovered mistakes or parts that I had not solved well, I focused on studying and doing exercises for that part more and in more detail. The more detailed I do, the more sensitive my ability to recognize and react to question types and areas of knowledge will be,” Duy shared.
The spirit of "never giving up" also brought sweet results for Duy in the 10th grade entrance exam a few years ago.
Duy said that his parents wanted him to have a "true childhood" so they did not impose on him studying and put too much emphasis on grades in the early years of middle school. To get into Nguyen Thi Minh Khai Middle School, he had to score about 8.5 points on the 10th grade exam for each subject. At the beginning of 9th grade, when teachers assigned him to a group that was considered unlikely to get into a top public school, Duy was quite sad. "I was determined to devote all my time to my studies and was then transferred to a better group. With the goal of getting into a top public school in the area, I tried very hard, especially in Math, and in the end, I was rewarded accordingly," Duy said.
The male student said that during the SAT review period, it was difficult to get high scores in class and maintain exam preparation. Duy was no exception to that pressure. To maintain good grades in his classes, Duy focused on understanding the lessons in class and taking advantage of the time to complete his homework. That way, he could spend more time on his priority goals.
To increase his English vocabulary, Duy believes that the fastest way for him is to listen to short clips on YouTube and social networks. “I like learning through videos because they are easy to absorb and not boring. When I hear a new word or don’t understand its meaning, I look it up and take notes to learn more every day,” Duy shared.
When using social networks, Duy sets the display language to English to create a daily communication environment. Thanks to that, he is exposed to many vocabulary in different situations and learns how to use words more naturally.

The male student said that he was probably one of the few people who achieved a perfect score on the SAT but never won any awards or medals from competitions at any level.
“My personal story can also partly show that the opportunity and ability to conquer absolute SAT scores do not only come to students from specialized schools or excellent students in exams at all levels. With determination and effort, every young person can 'touch' things they never expected,” Duy shared.
Duy believes that, for him, besides family, having a companion is also an effective way to encourage. “The words of encouragement and sharing from a special girlfriend have helped me to be re-energized in the face of difficulties, even when I wanted to give up,” Duy said.
With a perfect SAT score, Duy dreams of studying abroad if he can get into an international university and receive a valuable scholarship. However, to realize that goal, at the present time, he still has to prioritize completing high school, aiming for the highest possible grade point average (GPA) for the first semester of grade 12. At the same time, Duy is also rushing to complete the essays for his study abroad application.
The male student plans to apply to study Information Technology at universities in the US and Finland. “My goal is not only to be admitted but also to hope to win a scholarship, so my task will be more difficult. The more so, the more determined I have to be,” Duy said.
