Police investigate suspected fake books case in Hanoi

Faced with the incident of many English books in Hanoi showing unusual signs, suspected to be fake, the local authorities have assigned the police to investigate and clarify the matter.

The above information was shared by a leader of the People's Committee of Xuan Mai Commune ( Hanoi ) with Thanh Nien on August 19. According to the leader, regarding the reflection of many parents suspecting that they received fake English books from the school, the commune has assigned the police to investigate.

Xuan Mai commune has assigned the police to investigate and clarify the suspicion of fake English books appearing in the area.

Previously, the People's Committee of Xuan Mai commune issued a document requesting the principals of primary and secondary schools in the area to coordinate with the textbook supplier for the 2025-2026 school year to report in writing and provide information, records, and documents to trace the origin of textbooks issued to students.

When Thanh Nien reporter asked about the results and data of the book review showing signs of abnormalities, the leader of Xuan Mai commune said that the commune is synthesizing and will provide specific information later.

As Thanh Nien reported, recently, many parents suspected Xuan Mai A Primary School, Xuan Mai A Secondary School, and Be Tong Primary School when distributing new school year textbooks that included English books suspected to be fake.

Notably, at Xuan Mai A Primary School, a parent of a 5th grader said that although the school had not yet distributed English books, when checking the old 4th grade English books (school year 2024 - 2025), they discovered 3 books with unusual signs, suspected to be fake books.

From the above reflection, Xuan Mai commune sent staff to verify and requested the school to report on book distribution.

As of the morning of August 18, after checking, Xuan Mai A Secondary School and Concrete Primary School discovered that 204 English books belonging to grades 5, 6, 7, 8, and 9 showed signs of abnormality.

These English books were imported by the school from Phong Tung Investment and Trading Company Limited (Phong Tung Company) in Xuan Mai commune.
