Police investigate suspected counterfeit book case in Hanoi.

Following the discovery of several English textbooks in Hanoi showing unusual characteristics, suspected to be counterfeit, local authorities have instructed the police to investigate and clarify the matter.

This information was shared with Thanh Nien newspaper on August 19th by a leader of the People's Committee of Xuan Mai commune ( Hanoi ). According to the leader, regarding the complaints from many parents who suspect they received counterfeit English textbooks from the school, the commune has assigned the police to investigate.

Xuan Mai commune has instructed the police to investigate and clarify the suspected appearance of counterfeit English textbooks in the area.

Previously, the People's Committee of Xuan Mai commune had issued a document requesting the principals of primary and secondary schools in the area to coordinate with the textbook supplier for the 2025-2026 school year to submit written reports and provide information, records, and documents tracing the origin and source of the textbooks provided to students.

When a reporter from Thanh Nien newspaper asked about the results and the irregularities in the book review data, the leader of Xuan Mai commune said that the commune was compiling the information and would provide specific details later.

As Thanh Nien newspaper reported, recently, many parents suspected that Xuan Mai A Primary School, Xuan Mai A Secondary School, and Be Tong Primary School were distributing English textbooks for the new school year that were allegedly counterfeit.

Specifically, at Xuan Mai A Primary School, a parent of a 5th-grade student reported that although the school had not yet distributed English textbooks, upon checking the old 4th-grade English textbooks (for the 2024-2025 school year), they discovered three books with unusual markings, suspected to be counterfeit.

Following the aforementioned feedback, Xuan Mai commune sent officials to verify the information and requested the school to report on the book distribution.

As of the morning of August 18th, after a review, Xuan Mai A Secondary School and Be Tong Primary School discovered 204 English textbooks for grades 5, 6, 7, 8, and 9 that showed signs of irregularities.

These English textbooks were imported by the school from Phong Tung Investment and Trading Company Limited (Phong Tung Company) in Xuan Mai commune.
