Announcing BL9 rice variety for special circulation

On the afternoon of September 18, the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development of Bac Lieu province held a workshop to announce the BL9 rice variety - a rice variety that has just been recognized for special circulation by the Department of Crop Production (Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development).

According to the Bac Lieu Province Agricultural Seed Center (the BL9 rice variety breeding unit), BL9 rice variety belongs to the aromatic rice group, crossbred from the combination of RVT rice variety and OM4900 rice variety, selected through many generations with beautiful phenotype, strong plants, good lodging resistance and few pests and diseases.

BL9 rice variety has the potential for good yield, summer-autumn and autumn-winter crops yield 5.5-6.5 tons/ha, winter-spring crops yield 6.5-7.5 tons/ha, widely adaptable, easy to cultivate. BL9 rice is clear, less chalky, lightly fragrant, sticky and sweet, does not dry when cooled. In particular, through experiments at the unit, BL9 variety has the ability to withstand salinity at a concentration of about 4‰ in a greenhouse.
