Vietnam Construction Workers' Union:

In recent years, construction workers have faced numerous challenges as the real estate market has slowed down, many projects have been delayed, and jobs and incomes have become unstable. In this context, caring for workers in difficult circumstances continues to be a central and ongoing task for the Vietnam Construction Trade Union, clearly demonstrating its role as a representative, protector, and partner of its members and workers.

Providing care based on specific circumstances at the grassroots level.

According to Ms. Au Thi Dinh, Vice President of the Vietnam Construction Trade Union, during the period 2023-2025, trade unions at all levels throughout the industry proactively reviewed and thoroughly assessed the living and working conditions of union members, especially those facing sudden difficulties due to work accidents, serious illnesses, natural disasters, or job loss.

"Caring for workers must start from the grassroots, from each specific circumstance. The trade union doesn't wait for workers to come to it, but proactively identifies and provides timely support to help them overcome difficulties," said Ms. Au Thi Dinh.

In fact, at Nghe An Construction Company No. 3, the case of Ms. Tran Thi L., a construction worker from Nam Dan district, is a clear example of the effectiveness of grassroots welfare work. Having lost her husband early and raising two young children alone, Ms. L. was diagnosed with a serious illness requiring long-term treatment at the end of 2023. With unstable income, her family was facing financial hardship.

Understanding her situation, the local trade union promptly proposed to the Vietnam Construction Trade Union to provide 15 million VND in support, and also mobilized staff and union members in the unit to donate more to help her cover treatment costs.

“The support from the trade union came at the right time, giving me more confidence to continue treatment and take care of my children. I truly feel the sharing and companionship of the trade union organization,” Ms. L. shared emotionally.

Over 116,000 workers received support.

Not only in Nghe An province, but according to statistics from the Vietnam Construction Workers' Union, in the three years from 2023 to 2025, 116,531 union members and workers in difficult circumstances received support, with a total budget of over 146.342 billion VND. The forms of support were implemented flexibly and appropriately for each individual, ranging from emergency hardship allowances, support for work accidents and serious illnesses, to care during holidays and Tet (Lunar New Year).

One of the most humane programs, especially appreciated by construction workers, is the "Trade Union Shelter" program. From 2023 to 2025, the program continued to expand throughout the industry, with 50 houses built or renovated, totaling 2.507 billion VND.

In Quynh Luu district (Nghe An province), Mr. Le Van T., a construction worker employed on a seasonal contract, had to live with his family in a severely dilapidated single-story house for many years. He received 40 million VND from the "Trade Union Shelter" program to repair his house.

“Having a sturdy house, I can work far away with peace of mind, no longer worrying every time it rains or storms. The trade union has helped my family change our lives,” Mr. T shared.

According to the Vietnam Construction Workers' Union, the "Trade Union Shelter" program not only contributes to improving the lives of union members but also joins hands in achieving the goal of eliminating temporary and dilapidated houses in accordance with the policies of the Party and the Government .

Spreading the spirit of social responsibility

Alongside directly caring for union members, social and charitable activities continue to be widely implemented by trade unions at all levels in the construction industry. Many meaningful movements such as supporting people affected by storms and floods, donating blood, giving gifts to poor children and people in mountainous areas, and honoring those who have contributed to the nation on July 27th... have attracted a large number of union members to participate, with the total amount reaching hundreds of billions of VND.

These activities not only bring material value but also contribute to spreading a positive image of construction workers as compassionate and responsible members of the community. In particular, the Vietnam Construction Workers' Union has closely coordinated with the Vietnam Transport Workers' Union Charity Fund, thereby expanding resources to care for disadvantaged workers. During the period 2023-2025, the Fund supported 224 collectives and 5,566 union members and workers, donating thousands of gifts to policy beneficiaries, with a total expenditure of over 15.887 billion VND.

From specific circumstances in Nghe An to tens of thousands of union members nationwide, the Vietnam Construction Trade Union's work in caring for disadvantaged workers has clearly affirmed its role as a reliable support system. In the context of the many challenges ahead in 2025, the achievements serve as an important foundation for the union to continue innovating, focusing strongly on the grassroots level, prioritizing workers, and contributing to the sustainable development of the construction industry.
