Introducing the My Son Heritage Community Bài Chòi Singing Performance Team
Creating livelihoods for the people while preserving and promoting the value of the heritage.
The My Son Cultural Heritage Management Board (My Son Cultural Heritage Management Board) announced that the Bài Chòi singing and chanting troupe of the My Son heritage community has officially launched its artistic performance to serve visitors to the temple complex.
Previously, the Bài Chòi singing and chanting game was also organized during the Lunar New Year of the Year of the Snake (2015) and received much praise from domestic and international tourists.
More than just a traditional Tet game, this activity is particularly moving for viewers as they listen to the simple, call-and-response songs, imbued with the essence of Quang Nam's folk culture, right in the mystical setting of My Son temple complex.
Since UNESCO recognized the Central Vietnamese Bài Chòi art form as a Representative Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity in 2017, the people of Duy Xuyên and Quảng Nam have continuously strived to preserve and promote this art form. Currently, the Mỹ Sơn community is actively preserving and teaching Bài Chòi art, contributing to the preservation of national cultural heritage.
According to Mr. Nguyen Cong Khiet, Director of the My Son Cultural Heritage Management Board, the Bài Chòi singing performance team consists of 6 local members and operates independently on a self-financing model.
The management board provided initial funding to help them purchase equipment and maintain operations for six months. The program takes place every Saturday and Sunday in the lobby of the My Son Museum, with six performances each day, each lasting 15 minutes.
The establishment of performance teams not only helps preserve and promote the cultural value of Bài Chòi but also shares the benefits of the heritage with the local community, contributing to socio -economic development and diversifying tourism products.
Mr. Khiet stated that, in addition to the task of preserving heritage, the Management Board always recognizes that creating livelihoods for the local people is also an important part of managing and promoting the value of the historical site.
The area surrounding My Son, including the bordering communes and adjacent areas, possesses favorable natural, historical, and cultural factors for developing community-based tourism .
Prominent destinations such as Thach Ban Dam, An Hoa Industrial Zone, Duc Duc Airport, and An Hoa Pagoda all have tourism development potential. At the same time, traditional customs and festivals bearing the distinct mark of the Cham-Vietnamese cultural exchange further enhance the unique cultural value of the region.
Developing community-based tourism not only creates livelihoods for local people but also helps preserve and promote the value of the My Son World Cultural Heritage site. This is a form of benefit sharing, with responsibility not only on the part of management units but also on the part of local authorities, businesses, and the community.
Over time, thanks to international cooperation programs and policies supporting people's livelihoods, the economy, and heritage education, people's awareness has undergone a positive transformation, fostering pride in cultural heritage.

A sustainable path for economic development.
Community-based tourism not only brings sustainable economic development benefits to local residents but also helps protect ecological resources and preserve unique cultural values. This is a model that is increasingly being emphasized and promoted in the My Son historical site and surrounding areas.
Tourism development projects implemented by the My Son Cultural Heritage Management Board in coordination with the Duy Xuyen District People's Committee aim to utilize existing potential to transform occupations, create jobs, contribute to local economic development, and preserve traditional cultural values.
The My Son Cultural Heritage Management Board has increased investment in infrastructure, improved service quality, and implemented tourism promotion activities, including advertising and linking with tourist destinations, travel businesses, and the media.
In the near future, the Management Board will cooperate with local people and travel agencies to pilot a My Son tourism tour combined with community tourism in the surrounding areas.
At the same time, new tourism products are also being researched, including daily tours of the My Son temple complex and performances of Cham music and dance, or themed tours studying Cham and Sa Huynh culture.
With programs like these, community tourism is not only an economic activity but also a bridge between the past and the present, helping the people of My Son and the surrounding areas to work together to preserve heritage and develop a sustainable economy.
