The Ophthalmology Conference 2025 was held for the first time with comprehensive cooperation between the Central Eye Hospital and Ho Chi Minh City Eye Hospital, taking place on August 8-9 in Hanoi, attracting the participation of nearly 1,500 doctors, nurses, technicians from ophthalmology facilities nationwide and many international ophthalmology experts from countries such as the United States, India, Hungary, Singapore, Thailand, Philippines, Malaysia, etc.

The conference is a prestigious scientific forum to share the latest advances in ophthalmology, technological applications in ophthalmology, treatment experiences, hospital management, find optimal solutions in eye care and protection, contributing to the implementation of Vietnam's vision goals by 2030.

The Ophthalmology Conference 2025 also organizes new knowledge updates through courses and specialized training in 4 areas: Children's eyes; Glaucoma; Diagnostic imaging, testing and corneal-related issues (corneal mapping) for students who are doctors, technicians, and nurses specializing in ophthalmology.

Speaking at the Conference, according to the leader of the Ministry of Health , in recent years, although the entire health sector in general and the eye sector in particular have faced many challenges such as pandemics, overload pressure, and bottlenecks in investment and procurement, ophthalmology hospitals have continuously strived to improve, maintain professional quality and actively innovate.

A notable milestone is the World Health Organization (WHO) recognizing Vietnam as having eliminated trachoma, a common cause of blindness in many developing countries.

This achievement is not only a victory for the ophthalmology sector but also a clear demonstration of the scientific mettle, organizational capacity and humanitarian values of the country's health sector.

Every year, hundreds of thousands of patients are examined and treated with modern techniques such as Phaco surgery, vitrectomy, corneal transplantation, laser treatment of refractive errors, diabetic retinopathy management and pediatric eye care through programs such as "For Children's Eyes".

The work of caring for and protecting people's eyes is entering a new, pivotal stage of development, requiring not only extensive professional capacity but also strategic thinking, long-term vision and synchronous action from the central to local levels.

Within the framework of the conference, the CME training course “Computerized Tomography - Advanced Corneal Mapping” shared many new updated knowledge about ophthalmology for ophthalmologists, refractive-cataract surgeons, and refractive specialists from many provinces and cities across the country.

The program was organized in collaboration with Thien Truong Joint Stock Company and Oculus (Germany). The two main devices of the training session were Pentacam AXL Wave and Corvis ST, representing the intersection between advanced technology and international training standards.

Pentacam AXL Wave is a unique, multifunctional integrated device capable of collecting comprehensive data on the cornea and anterior segment of the eye.

A lot of ophthalmology knowledge is shared in training classes.

The device simultaneously performs tomography of the entire cornea and anterior chamber; anterior and posterior corneal topography; assessment of global aberrations via wavefront aberrometry; high-precision axial length (AXL) measurement; and calculation of intraocular lens (IOL) power, including optimal formulations for patients who have undergone refractive surgery.

With a single measurement, the physician can collect all the data needed for screening, diagnosis, surgical planning, and postoperative monitoring of complex refractive and cataract cases.

In addition, Corvis ST is a device for assessing intraocular pressure and analyzing corneal biomechanics based on Dynamic Scheimpflug technology, contributing significantly to early screening of keratoconus and the risk of corneal ectasia.

The device also helps evaluate CBI and TBI indexes with integrated artificial intelligence, providing accurate predictions of the risk of complications after refractive surgery.

Corvis ST also supports the diagnosis of non-tense glaucoma (NTG) cases and monitors treatment effectiveness, as well as corneal biomechanical changes after medical interventions. The combination of Pentacam AXL Wave and Corvis ST provides physicians with a comprehensive picture, while helping to improve safety and effectiveness in all treatment decisions.

The highlight of this training course is the presence of Dr. Cristina Angelica A. Tan, an international expert from the Philippines, with many years of experience in the field of cornea, ocular surface disease, refractive surgery and cataract. She is currently a senior consultant at the Eye and Vision Institute - The Medical City and the Asia-Pacific regional expert of Oculus®.

At the training course, Dr. Tan presented in depth about the corneal map analysis technique and suitable patient selection for multifocal lenses based on Pentacam AXL Wave data, and emphasized the role of corneal biomechanical analysis using Corvis ST in limiting complications and optimizing postoperative visual outcomes.

Through visual clinical cases, Dr. Tan shared his experience in personalizing IOL selection based on accurate data from Pentacam AXL Wave, especially for complex cases or cases requiring high quality of vision.

In particular, patients with astigmatism benefit greatly from the Medicontur and Cristalens toric IOL solutions, which allow simultaneous correction of refractive error and astigmatism in a single surgery. Combining the precise data from Pentacam with the appropriate choice of toric IOL not only optimizes visual outcomes but also significantly reduces the need for postoperative spectacles.

In addition to updating diagnostic technology, the class also conveys the trend of choosing high-end artificial lenses in surgery.

New knowledge in the field of Ophthalmology is updated for delegates.

Through the training course, students not only acquire theoretical knowledge but also directly practice measuring, analyzing reports and discussing clinical cases under the dedicated guidance of Oculus experts and Thien Truong technical team.

Feedback from students showed high satisfaction with the practical application and professional depth of the course, with many doctors pledging to immediately apply the techniques and assessment procedures they have just learned to their daily practice.

The success of the training course is not only reflected in the number of attendees or the quality of the content, but also in its wide influence on the Vietnamese ophthalmology community.

The course contributes to raising awareness of the role of modern imaging technology in diagnosis and treatment planning; enhancing analytical skills, personalizing treatment for each patient; and promoting cooperation between hospitals, clinics and international experts to improve the quality of vision care.

Thien Truong Joint Stock Company, as a bridge between technology and expertise, has made continuous efforts to bring advanced ophthalmic solutions to Vietnam, while organizing many specialized training programs and transferring modern techniques to the medical team.
