Smart wearable health tracking devices

In recent years, smart wearable devices that track health 24/7 have revolutionized the healthcare field, offering continuous health monitoring, effective chronic disease management, and remote healthcare support. For example, smartwatches and smart bracelets can measure electrocardiograms (ECGs), monitor blood pressure, detect falls, and alert you to high or low heart rates.

In 2020, Ms. Hoang Phuong Lien, who rose to prominence in Da Nang with her fashion brand LiA style, founded AgeTech for Vietnam with the belief that technology can become the key to enabling older adults to live more independently, healthier, and more connected lives.

AgeTech applies technological solutions to healthcare for the elderly. Ms. Lien believes that moving towards a society that pays more attention to the elderly will lead to a more connected and happier society.

However, older adults also need to be empowered to live more actively, independently, safely, and meaningfully so that they can feel their lives are always rich, joyful, and worth living, through access to assistive technology devices, fall detection sensors, telehealth applications, and community networking platforms. These solutions can accompany older adults in every moment of their lives, from medical care to social interaction.

Technology helps provide sustainable care and recovery.

In early 2025, following a severe stroke that caused paralysis of the left side of the body, patient MQT was hospitalized with complete paralysis of the left arm and difficulty walking with the left leg.

With dedicated guidance from doctors, technicians, and nurses at the Rehabilitation Department of Da Nang C Hospital, the patient benefited from the application of modern rehabilitation technologies during treatment, including: walking robots, virtual reality (VR) training systems, and transcranial electrical stimulation. As a result, after nearly six months of inpatient treatment, the patient was able to return to their daily life.

Currently, Da Nang C Hospital, Department of Rehabilitation, is leading the revolution in integrating AI and VR into treatment processes, bringing hope and a better quality of life to patients. According to Dr. Bui Van Hoi, Head of the Department, from January 2025, the department will use a robotic assistive device for patients with lower limb paralysis or hemiplegia after a stroke to improve their walking skills, with 462 patients using it after more than 10 months of implementation.

The robot, controlled by AI, is capable of "learning" and adapting to each patient's responses, flexibly adjusting parameters such as speed and stride length. This ensures that each step is optimized for replicating standard movement patterns, helping to shorten recovery time, strengthen muscles, and improve balance.

Advanced VR systems use sensors to accurately record each movement, recreating them in a 3D virtual space. The system has been used by 486 patients. As a result, doctors not only gain a visual understanding of the exercise process but also collect objective, detailed data on the range of motion, speed, and accuracy of each movement.

The combination of "play" and "exercise" has made the recovery process more effective and enjoyable than ever, helping patients maintain motivation and achieve better results.

In addition, AI acts as an intelligent "brain," analyzing massive amounts of data from VR therapy sessions to provide accurate assessments of patient progress, helping to personalize treatment plans and optimize each step of recovery.

"Thanks to these technologies, doctors can eliminate the manual assessment phase, making the examination and treatment process faster and more accurate with appropriate treatment protocols, while also leading to a better prognosis for patients," Dr. Hoi emphasized.
