The practice of thrift and anti-wastefulness has achieved many positive results.

Presenting a report at the meeting, Minister of Finance Nguyen Van Thang said that in 2024, the Government and the Prime Minister established the Government's Steering Committee for Waste Prevention and Control; issued Decision No. 1764/QD-TTg dated December 31, 2023 on the Government's Overall Program on practicing thrift and combating waste in 2024 and many directives and telegrams.

This aims to synchronously implement the goals, tasks, and solutions for practicing thrift and fighting waste in all fields, contributing to mobilizing, allocating, and effectively using resources to create sources for salary reform, ensuring macroeconomic stability, controlling inflation, ensuring the major balance of the economy; creating more substantial changes in the awareness and actions of cadres, civil servants, public employees, workers, and people in practicing thrift and fighting waste.

Despite many difficulties and challenges, the Government, ministries, branches and localities have resolutely and effectively deployed and implemented the provisions of the Law on Practicing Thrift and Combating Wastefulness, the Resolutions of the National Assembly, the Government and the tasks and solutions set out in the Government's Overall Program on Practicing Thrift and Combating Wastefulness in 2024. The work of practicing thrift and combating waste has had many changes and achieved important and positive results in all fields, contributing to the successful implementation of socio-economic development goals and targets (achieving and exceeding all 15/15 main socio-economic development targets set).

Presenting the audit report, Standing Deputy Chairman of the Economic and Financial Committee Le Quang Manh said that the practice of thrift and anti-waste in 2024 continued to have many positive changes. However, in addition to the achieved results, there are still shortcomings, limitations, and waste... Therefore, the Standing Committee of the Economic and Financial Committee proposed to continue to tighten financial discipline, well implement fiscal policy, strictly control overspending; have effective solutions to overcome shortcomings and limitations in implementing National Target Programs and public investment; resolutely organize and accelerate the implementation of projects, ensuring quality and progress according to the requirements of the National Assembly's resolutions.

Speaking at the meeting, Vice Chairman of the National Assembly Nguyen Khac Dinh said that it is necessary to review all slow-moving projects and remove shortcomings in mechanisms and policies so that projects can be implemented in practice, which is also a way to free up resources and prevent waste.

In addition, review ineffective use of public assets, especially in localities. In the process of reorganizing the apparatus of the entire political system, financial and asset management must ensure no loss, waste, or negativity. Financial resources and assets must be put to effective use.

In his concluding remarks, Vice Chairman of the National Assembly Nguyen Duc Hai stated that the work of practicing thrift and combating waste in 2024 has had many changes and achieved important and positive results in all fields; the shortcomings, inadequacies and limitations of previous years have been gradually overcome; the sense of responsibility for practicing thrift and combating waste has been raised to a new level.

However, through the Government's Report, the audit report and the Standing Committee's opinions, there are still shortcomings and limitations. The Standing Committee requested the Government to clarify the causes related to the contents of the National Assembly's thematic supervision resolution on thrift practice and waste prevention in 2023. The National Assembly Standing Committee basically agrees with the tasks and solutions for 2024 that the Government has stated in the report and the Economic and Financial Committee has further emphasized in the audit report.

The Vice Chairman of the National Assembly requested the Government to study and absorb the opinions of the examining agencies and the opinions of the National Assembly Standing Committee to supplement and complete the report to the National Assembly and the examining agency, the Economic and Financial Committee to conduct an official examination to submit to the National Assembly at the 9th Session of the 15th National Assembly.
