In a solemn and proud atmosphere, delegates together with a large number of cadres, soldiers and people of all ethnic groups in Muong Nhe district solemnly performed the flag-raising ceremony at A Pa Chai Flagpole on the morning of May 7. The moment the red flag with a yellow star measuring more than 37 square meters was raised to the top of the pole, fluttering in the mountains and forests of the Northwest as a symbol of firmly affirming national territorial sovereignty, an emotion and pride welled up in each person.
Present at the flag-raising ceremony, Ms. Po Son Me, a Ha Nhi ethnic in Sin Thau commune (Muong Nhe district) expressed: “Witnessing the A Pa Chai Flagpole, a sacred symbol of the Fatherland, being built and completed right on my homeland, I feel extremely happy and proud. This is a great honor for the ethnic people in Sin Thau. I vow to join the people of the Sin Thau border to preserve and protect this project well, so that this place becomes a meaningful destination for visitors from near and far and so that everyone who comes can feel the spirit of patriotism and the will to protect the sacred sovereignty of the Vietnamese people”.

According to the Party Secretary of Sin Thau Ly Phi Ca commune, the construction of the A Pa Chai Flagpole is an event of special significance to the local government and people. For a long time, the people here have always longed for a symbolic project. The A Pa Chai Flagpole project not only affirms national sovereignty at the westernmost point of the country but also contributes to promoting socio-economic development in the locality. When the project is completed and put into operation, it will certainly attract more and more tourists to visit, creating conditions for people to develop tourism services, improve their lives, and contribute to firmly consolidating national defense and security at the border.
Standing in front of the red flag with a yellow star flying proudly on top of the A Pa Chai Flagpole, Senior Lieutenant Quang Anh Quan, Assistant for Mass Affairs, Political Department, Border Guard of Dien Bien Province, could not hide his emotions. “The moment the national flag was slowly raised, fluttering in the sky and land of the border region, I felt a sense of pride rising in my chest,” Senior Lieutenant Quang Anh Quan said.

Sovereignty mark in the far west of the Fatherland
The national flag flies on A Pa Chai Flagpole.
The total area of the flagpole is 407m2, including the surrounding walking path, the flag-raising yard, the landscape flower beds and the center is the flagpole, symbolizing the solidarity of ethnic groups around the sacred fire of the nation. From above, the flagpole is stylized like a Ban flower blooming in the Northwest mountains and forests. The flagpole has a total height of 45.19m; the flag size is 7.5x5m, the area is 37.5m2. The body of the flagpole is shaped like an octagon, showing a balance of solidity, firmness and majesty suitable for the nature of the project as the sacred flagpole of the Fatherland.
The base of the flagpole is highlighted by 5 reliefs depicting typical images of Northwest culture and ethnic motifs, according to 5 main themes: The Legend of the Mother Gourd - Legend of the Khmu ethnic group; Cultural beliefs and festivals; Labor, production and traditional occupations; Folk songs, folk dances, folk games; 7/5 Square with the solidarity circle of ethnic groups. In addition, the top of the flagpole is covered with stone reliefs with the theme of Uncle Ho with the Northwest ethnic groups. The path up to the flagpole consists of 519 steps that cling to the natural terrain of the hillside.

Mr. Le Thanh Do, Chairman of Dien Bien Provincial People's Committee affirmed that A Pa Chai Flagpole was built with great enthusiasm, demonstrating the steadfast loyalty of the Party Committee, government and people of all ethnic groups in Dien Bien province in building and protecting national border sovereignty. The flagpole is a symbol of patriotism, national pride and the aspiration to build a sustainable country. The red flag with a yellow star flutters on top of A Pa Chai Flagpole to remind future generations of the value of peace and the responsibility of every Vietnamese citizen in preserving the country's borders.

A Pa Chai Flagpole is also a cultural and historical work with the meaning of educating revolutionary traditions for the younger generation, will become a highlight for the Dien Bien - Westernmost A Pa Chai tourist route, creating a great driving force for local tourism.
