When will the Km0 milestone next to Hoan Kiem Lake be installed?

According to a representative of the Hoan Kiem District Investment and Construction Project Management Board, the selection of the location for the Km0 milestone was made by the Hoan Kiem District People's Committee based on thorough research, consultation with experts and scientists , and a design competition to find the optimal solution.

According to this person, the Km0 milestone will not only be a structure that marks the starting point of routes, used to calculate distances from Hanoi to other localities, but also an important cultural, historical, and tourist symbol of Hanoi.

At the same time, it contributes to enriching the experience for locals and tourists visiting Hoan Kiem Lake.

The winning design is the product of young lecturers from Hanoi University of Architecture. The design, titled "Gate of Light," is located in the courtyard in front of the Ly Thai To Monument.

This group of authors designed the Km 0 symbol as a flat surface, with a modern, minimalist, yet sophisticated visual language.

The highlight of the design is the use of 3D hologram technology, a technology that creates three-dimensional images using light to form a virtual "gateway" of light in the area. Depending on different times or events, the images can be adjusted accordingly.

According to the design, the landmark is a solid, square copper plate, 6 cm thick and measuring 4 m². At its center is a square bearing the symbol of Hanoi, the capital city.

The Km0 milestone will be placed in front of the statue of King Ly Thai To (Hoan Kiem District). The decorative patterns are stylized from a treasure trove of traditional motifs with high generalization, representing images of nature and people of Vietnam.

In the building's lighting section, when there is sufficient daylight, a 3D hologram projector will project the Hanoi city logo onto the lower part of the glass panel.

In the evening, the projector will project 3D hologram images onto the space above the bronze relief.

Previously, in 2020, Hoan Kiem district conducted research and sought opinions from experts and scientists to propose a suitable location for the Km0 marker that aligns with the culture and history of Hanoi, and organized a design competition for the Km0 marker (part of the Investment Project for the construction, renovation and beautification of the area surrounding Hoan Kiem Lake).
