A slap in the face to Brad Pitt

According to the Daily Mail , Maddox (24 years old) has completed the legal process to remove "Pitt" from his name. His new legal name is Maddox Chivan Jolie. In the document submitted to the court, the reason given by the eldest son of the Jolie-Pitt family was simply "personal reasons".

In fact, this move was implicitly foreshadowed by Maddox back in February, when his name appeared in the trailer for Angelina Jolie's Couture film under the single title: Maddox Jolie. A year earlier, in the film project Maria (2024), he still used the double surname Maddox Jolie-Pitt. Maddox was adopted by Angelina Jolie in Cambodia in 2002 and officially adopted by Brad Pitt in 2006.

Maddox isn't the only of the Hollywood couple's six children seeking to distance himself from his father. Upon turning 18 in 2024, Shiloh – the couple's eldest biological daughter – also unilaterally initiated legal proceedings to drop the Pitt surname.

Speaking to People magazine, Shiloh's lawyer, Peter Levine, emphasized: "Shiloh made an independent and significant decision following heartbreaking events." Many sources suggest that this "event" refers to the shocking altercation on a private flight in 2016, the final straw that led to Angelina Jolie's divorce.

The other two daughters, Zahara and Vivienne, also did the same. At her graduation ceremony in May, adopted daughter Zahara announced her name as "Zahara Marley Jolie." Meanwhile, youngest daughter Vivienne also only used the name "Vivienne Jolie" on the promotional materials for the play The Outsiders , which she co-produced with her mother.

Currently, the two remaining sons, Pax Thien and Knox, have not taken any legal action regarding changing their last names, but Hollywood sources confirm that all of the children have cut off contact with Brad Pitt.

Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie began dating in 2005, married in 2014, and officially separated in 2016. Although the Los Angeles Department of Children and Families closed its investigation into the 2016 airplane altercation and concluded Brad Pitt did not commit any acts of violence, the relationship between the actor and his children could not be salvaged. This was followed by eight long years of intense legal battles over child custody and property division.

In a recent interview with The Hollywood Reporter , Angelina Jolie hinted at her current child custody agreement. The actress stated that she is obligated to remain in Los Angeles until her twins, Vivienne and Knox, turn 18.

"I have to stay here because of the divorce proceedings, but as soon as the children turn 18, I will leave. When you have a large family, what you want most is privacy, peace, and safety for your children," Angelina Jolie revealed.

The actress also revealed her future plans after being fully free: "I will spend most of my time in Cambodia and visit family members wherever they are in the world ."
