(NLĐO) - The Vietnam Road Administration has requested relevant units to prevent traffic congestion at road toll stations.

On the morning of January 26th, at the Dien Chau - Bai Vot expressway toll station, a 1km-long traffic jam occurred in the two lanes with barriers, heading from South to North. A slight congestion also occurred in the lane without barriers, with cars moving slowly in a long queue through the congested section.
The reason is that many drivers were unaware that the Dien Chau - Bai Vot expressway has been collecting tolls since January 5, 2025, and therefore have not registered for cashless toll collection accounts, causing localized traffic congestion for the past two days.
The head of the road management unit said that many vehicles did not have toll tags or their automatic toll collection accounts did not have enough money to deduct the fees, so toll collection staff had to guide drivers to register for accounts, which led to traffic congestion.
In light of this situation, the Vietnam Road Administration has recently sent a document to the Road Management Zones, Departments of Transport, BOT project investors, the Vietnam Expressway Investment and Development Corporation (VEC), and providers of automated toll collection services, requesting them to ensure traffic safety at road toll stations during the Lunar New Year and Spring Festival of 2025.
The Vietnam Road Administration requests that provincial Departments of Transport direct relevant agencies and units (for road toll stations where the local authority is the competent agency), VEC, BOT project investors, and toll collection service providers to strengthen coordination in organizing traffic at road toll stations to ensure synchronization, interconnectedness, safety, and smooth operation.
Units deploy permanent personnel at road toll stations to immediately handle incidents and technical errors arising during operation, minimizing system errors such as card recognition failure, barrier failure to open, and vehicles entering the wrong lane.
The organization, implementation, and management of road usage fee collection must ensure transparency, compliance with legal regulations, and accountability under the law if any losses, waste, or inadequacies occur in the road usage fee collection process.
The Vietnam Road Administration also requested that Road Management Zones and Departments of Transport proactively inspect and monitor the operation of the electronic toll collection system at toll stations, especially on expressways, major traffic routes, and gateway toll stations such as the expressways: Phap Van - Cau Gie - Ninh Binh, Hanoi - Hai Phong, Nha Trang - Cam Lam, Cam Lam - Vinh Hao, Dien Chau - Bai Vot...
At the same time, proactively monitor the situation, guide and support investors, BOT project enterprises, and toll collection service providers to promptly handle arising situations, preventing traffic congestion at road toll stations that could affect social security and order.
Regarding service providers, the Vietnam Road Administration requires VETC Automatic Toll Collection Company Limited and VDTC Digital Transport Joint Stock Company to coordinate with VEC, investors, and BOT project enterprises to strengthen the on-call force to handle incidents at road toll stations; and to assist people in attaching tags, opening accounts, and depositing money into accounts to pay road usage fees.
