Vietnam-Yunnan Tourism Cooperation Meeting in Lijiang

The event is part of the "Vietnam-China Tourism Cooperation Year 2026-2027," organized by the South Asia-Southeast Asia Regional International Media Center of Yunnan Province.

This activity concretizes the contents of Vietnam-China tourism cooperation in a substantive, balanced, and mutually beneficial manner.

As part of the program, Phan Linh Chi, Deputy Director of the Vietnam National Tourism Administration, attended the Vietnam-Yunnan Tourism Cooperation Meeting in Lijiang.

This is seen as a continuation of bilateral tourism cooperation mechanisms between the two countries, and also contributes to deepening the "Vietnam-China Tourism Cooperation Year 2026-2027," creating practical benefits for both management agencies, localities, and tourism business communities.

Speaking at the meeting, Yang Shuhong, Director of the Lijiang Municipal Bureau of Culture and Tourism, assessed Vietnam as one of the key target markets for Chinese tourism in general and Lijiang in particular.

He stated that the convenient air connections to Hanoi , Hai Phong, and Ho Chi Minh City have contributed to the positive growth in the number of Vietnamese tourists visiting Lijiang in recent years, especially the Ho Chi Minh City - Lijiang route with a promising occupancy rate.

Given the increasingly vibrant tourist exchanges, Lijiang hopes to work with Vietnam to develop a two-way tourist exchange model called "Lijiang Ancient Mountains - Vietnam's Blue Sea".

This will foster collaboration between travel businesses, digital media platforms, and social networks to enhance destination promotion for both sides.

Beyond tourism cooperation, both sides also aim to expand cultural and humanistic exchanges through art performances, the introduction of intangible cultural heritage, cooperation in preserving world heritage sites, and improving the quality of service for tourists through multilingual services and convenient payment options.

These contents reflect the new trend of regional tourism cooperation, which is to base sustainable development on cultural experiences and people-to-people connections.

The cultural exchange program themed "Enjoying coffee while admiring snow-capped mountains - Yunnan and Vietnam share a common heartbeat in Lijiang" took place from May 20-23.

From a media perspective, Tian Jing, Editor-in-Chief of Yunnan Daily Group, believes that enhancing understanding between the people of the two countries should be promoted through multi-faceted media activities, especially promoting world heritage sites, thematic exhibitions, and youth exchange programs.

He also suggested strengthening communication about border crossings and cross-border railway lines to promote cultural exchanges and tourism connectivity in the region.

During the talks, Phan Linh Chi, Deputy Director of the Vietnam National Tourism Administration, emphasized that cooperation with Lijiang is placed within the overall context of the increasingly positive development of Vietnam-China tourism cooperation.

At the ministerial level, the Vietnamese Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism and the Chinese Ministry of Culture and Tourism signed a Cultural and Tourism Cooperation Plan for the period 2023-2027, creating an important foundation to promote bilateral cooperation activities in the new phase.

According to Deputy Director Phan Linh Chi, the agreement between the high-level leaders of the two countries to implement the "Vietnam-China Tourism Cooperation Year 2026-2027" continues to create favorable conditions for management agencies, localities, and businesses on both sides to strengthen connections.

This includes the potential to expand cooperation with key destinations in Yunnan province such as Lijiang.

She also stated that the Vietnam National Tourism Administration has regularly organized many promotional activities in the Chinese market, including programs promoting Vietnamese tourism in Kunming, Yunnan province alone.

In 2025, numerous promotional activities continued to be implemented in Beijing, Shanghai, Hangzhou, Nanjing, Chongqing, and other cities, receiving significant attention from Chinese tourism authorities and businesses.

These activities are creating a favorable foundation for both sides to promote cooperation in a more substantive way, with deeper business participation and linked to the development of specific tourism products.

Vietnamese localities and Lijiang have ample room to develop two-way tourism products combining Vietnam's beaches, resorts, heritage sites, and cuisine with Lijiang, Yunnan's unique cultural, ecological, and snow-capped mountain landscapes.

Deputy Director Phan Linh Chi affirmed that the Vietnam National Tourism Administration always attaches great importance to tourism cooperation with China in general and Yunnan province in particular.

At the same time, we propose that Lijiang cooperate in researching and implementing further promotional activities, connecting travel agencies, hotels, airlines, and media outlets to develop unique two-way tourism products within the framework of the "Vietnam - China Tourism Cooperation Year 2026 - 2027".

Within the framework of the program, representatives from both sides also exchanged views on various areas of cooperation in the fields of cultural heritage, media, sports, and people-to-people diplomacy.

Deputy Director Phan Linh Chi also attended the opening ceremony of the "2nd Lijiang Jade Dragon Mountain Coffee Culture Week" and a cultural exchange activity themed "Enjoying coffee while admiring snow-capped mountains - Yunnan and Vietnam share a common heartbeat in Lijiang".

In the context of people-to-people exchanges becoming one of the key drivers of regional cooperation, activities in Lijiang demonstrate that tourism today, in addition to attracting visitors, also serves as a cultural bridge, fostering understanding and partnership between neighboring countries.

The implementation of the "Vietnam-China Tourism Cooperation Year 2026-2027" is opening up many new avenues for cooperation, based on equality, mutual respect, and a shared commitment to sustainable development.
