The play delves into the anxieties surrounding art and the fate of artists through the life story of Út Lượm (People's Artist Thanh Ngân). From a homeless street singer to achieving fame on stage as a leading actress, it's a tearful journey amidst the whirlwind of love, loyalty, and the complexities of the profession. The conflict between genuine love for art and blind ambition is portrayed through meticulously constructed layers of psychology, leading the audience from fragile hope to agonizing pain when the "melodies" of life falter.

In terms of acting, People's Artist Thanh Ngan continues to demonstrate the prowess of a leading star. She embodies the role of Ut Luom with a restrained, unpretentious performance that nonetheless delivers a powerful emotional impact. Her smooth, melancholic, and soothing voice, though gentle, is filled with heartfelt emotions through every breath and word, penetrating deep into the hearts of the audience.

Besides the lead actress, the participation of three Golden Bell Award winners in traditional Vietnamese opera created truly captivating performances. Meritorious Artists Vo Thanh Phe and Nguyen Van Khoi both possessed strong voices and a refined, sweet delivery, adding beautiful highlights to the story. In particular, viewers were moved to tears by Nguyen Thanh Toan's final performance. His authentic portrayal of a weathered, elderly artist who dedicated his entire life to art brought the performance's emotions to a climax.

To lighten the tragic elements, People's Artist My Hang and Dung Nhi seamlessly collaborated, creating charming comedic moments. Furthermore, the appearances of other artists such as Kim Luan, Thy Phuong, and Doan Minh contributed to a more complete and multifaceted portrayal of the lives of artists.

Director Le Trung Thao's adaptation has breathed new life into the original work, adapting it to contemporary tastes while retaining its authentic Southern Vietnamese essence. "The Melody of Tears" is not only a successful performance but also a reminder of the moral values and human compassion that shine brightly behind the stage lights.
