The festival held annually on the 12th day of the 2nd lunar month in Thu Bon village (Duy Tan, Duy Xuyen) is a traditional folk festival deeply marked by the fusion of traditional spiritual culture with modern culture of the Kinh and Cham ethnic groups; it is a culmination of the cultural exchange between Vietnam and Cham, a blend of the worship of Mother Goddess and the worship of the Mother of the Land.
Every year, the Thu Bon River Goddess festival welcomes men and women from the Cham community. This year, about 20 Cham people from My Son commune (Ninh Son district, Ninh Thuan province) joined the riverine festival to the rhythm of gongs and drums. Among them was Mr. Nam Trau, a Cham man who has been barefoot and with his hair tied up in a bun for over 45 years, attending the ceremony and celebrating with the villagers of Thu Bon.
They, along with the people of Quang Nam, respectfully participate in the procession of sacred objects and water, and joyfully join in the rhythmic drumming of Paranung drums and the sound of Saranai horns...
