The resounding victory of the Russian October Revolution 106 years ago – a revolution that liberated society and humanity – has gone down in human history as one of the greatest achievements in the course of historical development.

One hundred and sixty years ago, on November 7, 1917, the Russian October Revolution succeeded, gradually turning the age-old dreams of the oppressed and exploited masses into reality, with the extremely noble ideal of abolishing the system of exploitation of man by man, and achieving peace , national independence, democracy, and socialism.

A new chapter in Russian history.

In the autumn of 1917, Russia and the Bolshevik Party faced a historic moment. The Russian Empire's involvement in World War I had resulted in countless lives lost and immense property lost. The Provisional Government's unwillingness to meet the people's demands for a peace treaty and to resolve the issue of land redistribution from landlords to peasants had escalated the economic disaster and social chaos to the point of showing clear signs of collapse.

At that time, the upper echelons of Russian society were in turmoil; the working class, laborers, and soldiers could no longer endure such a suffocating and harsh life. The General Staff of the Russian Party and working class, headed by Vladimir Ilyich Lenin, grasped the direction of social change, seized the opportunity, and launched an uprising to seize power. The proletarian revolution broke out as an inevitable consequence.

On November 7, 1917, under the leadership of the Russian Bolshevik Party, headed by V.I. Lenin, the Russian working class and working people launched an armed uprising, overthrowing the bourgeois government and establishing the Soviet State – the first socialist state in the world .

The October Revolution in Russia fully met the urgent demands of history: to abolish capitalism and build a new social system – a communist social system, the initial stage of which was socialism. From being merely a noble dream of humankind, after the October Revolution, socialism became a reality and possessed immense power, paving the way for oppressed nations to rise up and fight for independence and freedom.

Following the October Revolution, Lenin and the Russian Bolshevik Party focused on consolidating Soviet power, building a new social system, and bringing a better life to the masses. The "Decree on Peace" and the "Decree on Land," issued immediately after the revolution's success, fulfilled the aspirations of the Russian working people for a peaceful, free, and happy life. The unity of interests between the proletariat and the working people formed and developed a new moral principle: collectivism.

A new foreign policy, a new international relations policy affirmed as one of peace and friendship among nations. A new type of state, built on the foundation of eliminating national and class oppression, and without exploitation of man by man, affirmed that the October Revolution marked the beginning of a new era - the era of national independence linked with socialism and a new age - the age of transition from capitalism to socialism.

The torch that guides the way

The victory of the October Revolution and the birth of the Soviet state founded by Lenin fundamentally changed the destiny of the Russian nation, transforming Russia from a backward, impoverished feudal and capitalist country into a leading economic, political, military, scientific, technological, cultural, and educational power in the world; elevating the working class and peasantry from a state of slavery to masters of their country and society; and continuously enhancing Russia's role and position on the international stage.

In particular, the victory of the Russian October Revolution gave impetus to the international communist and workers' movement. Guided by the light and encouragement of the Russian October Revolution, and with the enthusiastic and immense support of the Soviet Union, a powerful wave of proletarian revolutions erupted in Europe, creating a high tide of struggle by the working class and working people, shaking the foundations of the monopoly bourgeois class in many countries. A socialist system emerged, playing a significant role in the development of the modern world.

The Russian October Revolution also had a profound impact on the political and social life of many other nations and peoples; it awakened and encouraged oppressed colonial peoples and dependent countries to rise up and fight for independence and freedom, bringing faith and hope in their ability to liberate themselves. The working class and laborers in numerous colonial countries in Asia, Africa, and Latin America rose up to fight for national independence; hundreds of millions of people were liberated from the shackles of slavery, creating a powerful national liberation movement worldwide.

The victory of the October Revolution, the achievements of the Soviet regime, and the Soviet Union's victory in World War II also awakened and encouraged the struggle for people's livelihoods, democracy, and social progress in developed capitalist countries, forcing capitalism and imperialism to make adjustments to adapt and survive. As VI Lenin affirmed: "Our October Revolution has opened a new era in world history."

Miraculous transformations

With the emergence and existence of Soviet Russia and later the Soviet Union for nearly 80 years, humanity witnessed miraculous transformations in human life across one-third of the Earth's surface, the glorious victory of the Soviet Red Army saving mankind from the fascist catastrophe, and many great achievements brought about by real socialism.

However, since the collapse of socialism in the Soviet Union and Eastern Europe, hostile forces have been fiercely opposing and attempting to deny all the achievements of the Russian October Revolution and the ideological foundation of this great revolution, namely Marxism-Leninism. They argue that the Russian October Revolution has only purely Russian significance and value; thereby denying the necessity and dialectics of the Russian October Revolution as well as of the socialist revolution in general, and simultaneously denying the scientific and revolutionary nature of Marxism-Leninism.

However, the undeniable historical truth is that the October Revolution became a turning point in the development of human society, opening a correct path for the liberation of working people from oppression and exploitation, and building a new world that is just, democratic, civilized, and progressive. It transformed the noble ideal of socialism from utopianism into reality.

The October Revolution of 1917 in Russia realized the ideological viewpoints of scientific socialism, representing a major step forward in the intellectual development of humankind. It truly attracted millions of people to follow the revolutionary ideology and participate directly or indirectly in the struggle for their national independence and freedom. Therefore, the conspiracies and subversive tactics of hostile forces against socialism over the past decades only serve to highlight the profound significance and contemporary value of the great October Socialist Revolution.

A Handbook for the Vietnamese Revolution

Inspired and motivated by the October Revolution, and inheriting and creatively applying the experiences and historical lessons of this great event, the Communist Party of Vietnam, founded by President Ho Chi Minh, has led the Vietnamese people in a long and arduous revolutionary struggle, overcoming countless difficulties and challenges and achieving glorious feats.

Affirming the immense significance and value of the October Revolution, President Ho Chi Minh once said: “Like a dazzling sun, the October Revolution shone across the five continents, awakening millions of oppressed and exploited people on earth. In the history of mankind, there has never been a revolution with such great and profound significance.” “The great victory of the Russian October Revolution taught the working class, the working people, and the oppressed nations throughout the world many extremely valuable lessons, ensuring the complete liberation of the working class and of all mankind.”

In the light of Marxism-Leninism and the Russian October Revolution, leader Nguyen Ai Quoc found here the "magical handbook"—the path to national salvation for the Vietnamese people. And following the call of the Russian October Revolution, under the leadership of the Communist Party of Vietnam, which he founded and nurtured, the Vietnamese revolution followed the trajectory of socialism.

The Vietnamese people achieved victory in the August Revolution of 1945. The Democratic Republic of Vietnam was established, based on the selection of positive elements of the Soviet model of state organization, and steadfastly accompanied the people in their long struggle and achieved victory in the nine-year resistance war against French colonialism (1946-1954).

The North was liberated and began building socialism, becoming a great rear base for the great front line in the South in the journey of continuing the national democratic revolution, liberating the South, and unifying the Fatherland. Firmly committed to the goals of national independence and socialism, after 21 years of protracted resistance (1954-1975), the Vietnamese people's arduous war against the US for national salvation achieved complete victory, and the whole country moved towards socialism.

In response to the practical demands of the late 1980s, under the leadership of the Communist Party, in 1986, Vietnam embarked on a comprehensive Doi Moi (Renovation) process and developed the country along socialist lines. After more than 35 years of renovation and international integration, Vietnam has achieved many great successes in socio-economic development, firmly safeguarding its independence, sovereignty, and territorial integrity; and enhancing its position and prestige in the international arena.

From being surrounded, embargoed, and having relations almost exclusively with socialist countries, Vietnam has integrated deeply and comprehensively, establishing relations with 193 countries... Vietnam is also an active, responsible member of many regional and international organizations, playing an increasingly important role and having a voice in ASEAN, the Asia-Europe Cooperation Forum (ASEM), the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation Forum (APEC), and the United Nations…

Furthermore, political and social stability has been maintained, democracy has been promoted, and national unity has been strengthened, creating a powerful impetus for the construction and protection of the country. The economy has maintained a good growth rate, and the size of the economy has increased. The people's lives have improved. With its proactive and positive approach to international integration and its contribution to solving common problems of the region, the world, and humanity, such as peace, development, poverty eradication, and adaptation to climate change, Vietnam is becoming an increasingly important member with significant role, influence, and voice in the international community.

The achievements after more than 35 years of national renewal have contributed to proving the correctness and suitability of the model of real socialism in Vietnam. At the same time, it shows that the Communist Party of Vietnam has steadfastly led the people to successfully carry out the renewal process, bringing the country into a period of development – ​​a period of accelerated industrialization and modernization for the goal of a prosperous people, a strong nation, democracy, fairness, and civilization.
