Head coach Pham Thai Vinh of UPES was the teacher of assistant coach Nguyen Huynh Nam (Saigon Polytechnic College team) many years ago. In 2017, when starting to build the UPES football team, Mr. Vinh called student Nguyen Huynh Nam (born in 1995) to the team as a striker. Right in the national student football tournament in Ho Chi Minh City, Nam and his teammates excellently won the runner-up position and won a ticket to the final round held in Hanoi . That season, UPES won the bronze medal.

This afternoon, both Vinh and Nam will meet in a fierce match to decide the ticket to the play-off round. The winning team will be the team that takes first place in the group and continues. Assistant coach Nguyen Huynh Nam shared: "When drawing lots to divide the group, knowing that our team is in group 1, with many strong teams, we always determined that we are the underdog. Therefore, we always try our best to practice. Especially, in the match against the defending champion - Vinh's team this afternoon, we prepared carefully to enter the match well".

Mr. Pham Thai Vinh said: "I am used to pressure matches like this. Besides the high determination of the entire UPES team, there is one thing that I am still happy about, because my students are always polite, in your maturity is full of enthusiasm of an assistant coach. I often tell my students, after you graduate, try to use all your knowledge, skills, and experience to contribute to the football movement in schools. Nam has done a very good job."
