An optimistic book by a father with cerebral palsy.

"Superman Flying Across the Floor" is based on the true story of Bui Manh Ha, a father whose child has cerebral palsy but who always maintains an optimistic spirit and faith in his child's journey to integration.

On the afternoon of May 24, 2026, the "For the Smiles to Return" festival took place in Hanoi to raise community awareness about disadvantaged children. The highlight of the event was the launch of the children's artbook " Superhero Flying Across the Floor" by authors Bui Manh Ha and Le Thi Minh Nguyet. This work is a socio-cultural project aimed at spreading resilience, eliminating prejudice, and promoting the aspiration for inclusion of children with disabilities.

The book is based on the author Bui Manh Ha's real-life experiences accompanying his son who suffers from cerebral palsy (CP). For these special children, the "floor" is often a harsh physical barrier that confines their legs, which are unable to stand. The image of "Superhero" in the work is a tribute to the resilience of these children who have to use 200% of their strength just to perform the most ordinary actions.

Through the refined, modern artwork of artist Funtikid, the "escape from the floor" challenge of superhero Mark emerges as a hymn to courage. Authors Bui Manh Ha and Le Thi Minh Nguyet skillfully transform the pain of hospital beds and exhausting physical therapy sessions into colorful experiences, teaching readers the value of self-worth and empathy for those who are different.

Author Bui Manh Ha stated that, during his journey with his child, he realized many meaningful lessons, especially two concepts suggested by co-author Le Thi Minh Nguyet. The first is the transformation from "vulnerable" to "powerful." According to him, each child has their own world with unique beauty and abilities that adults sometimes lack the patience to recognize. Instead of viewing them merely as objects needing treatment or support, society needs to understand that children also have their own emotions, joys, and values.

The second concept is "ByNow Station," a "stopping point" that reminds everyone to love and live fully in the present. This message aims to change the perspective on children with disabilities, not viewing them through the lens of their shortcomings, but appreciating their adaptability, joy of life, and desire for inclusion.

According to the authors, "Superman Flying Across the Floor" is aimed at two main groups of readers. For parents of children with disabilities, the book serves as a source of emotional support during those confusing and disorienting years. For families with typically developing children, the work helps parents cultivate empathy from an early age, enabling children to learn to see the endearing qualities, resilience, and unique world of their special friends.

Ngày hội

The "For the Smiles to Return" event was attended by many psychologists, parents of children with disabilities, and children with special needs.

Within the framework of the event, the talk show "ByNow - From Traditional Lifestyles" attracted the attention of many experts and social activists. Here, author Bui Manh Ha, in his role as Vice President of the Vietnam Association of Families of Children with Cerebral Palsy, shared: "Through the power of respectful communication, each of us will together build a fair 'railway' where no superhero is left behind simply because they have a different way of moving or growing. The ByNow philosophy - be happy now - is the key. We don't wait until our children are completely healthy to allow ourselves to be happy. We choose happiness right now, alongside their disabilities, because it is precisely these disabilities that teach us how to love more fully than ever before."

At the "For the Smiles to Return" festival, the organizers donated thousands of books to families with children with cerebral palsy, hearing impairments, and motor disabilities nationwide. The authors also revealed plans to adapt their work into a stage play, produce online short films, and continue releasing more books exploring the perspectives of families with disabled members, thereby continuing their journey of connecting, healing, and spreading empathy within the community.

The ByNow Station exhibition space, recreating the world of "little superheroes" from their days in the womb to their journey facing challenges in life, is also a highlight of the "For the Smiles to Return" festival. The presence of organizations supporting children with disabilities in the exhibition space helps the public better understand the silent efforts that are bringing smiles and opportunities for integration to these children every day.
