Patient D.TN was admitted to the emergency room at Son Dong General Hospital (Bac Ninh) after a traffic accident. Examination and CT scan results showed that the patient had a grade IV rupture of the right kidney - a severe injury with a high risk of massive blood loss, hemorrhagic shock, and a direct threat to life.
After intensive resuscitation, blood transfusion, and respiratory support, the patient was urgently transferred to Bac Ninh General Hospital No. 1.
Upon admission at 8:30 PM that same day, the patient was in critical condition with pale skin and mucous membranes, abdominal distension and pain, a rapid pulse of 120 beats/minute, and blood pressure dropping to 90/60 mmHg. Given the extreme emergency, the doctors quickly convened a multidisciplinary consultation and activated the hospital's red alert protocol.
Approximately 15 minutes after admission, the patient was transferred directly to the operating room. The anesthesia and resuscitation team promptly established a large intravenous line, administered fluids, blood transfusions, and blood products to stabilize hemodynamics, while the surgeons performed emergency surgery.
During the surgery, doctors noted a complex rupture of the right kidney, resulting in significant bleeding. To save the patient's life, the team performed a right nephrectomy and thoroughly controlled the bleeding.
Thanks to the seamless coordination between the various specialties, the surgery was successful. Following treatment, the patient recovered well. Three days after the operation, the patient was fully conscious, hemodynamically stable, breathing well, able to eat and drink, and was able to walk and perform light activities independently.
Doctors say kidney injuries are dangerous surgical emergencies, often occurring after traffic accidents or workplace accidents. Severe cases of kidney rupture can lead to hemorrhagic shock and death if not detected and treated promptly.
People should seek medical attention immediately if they experience symptoms such as abdominal pain, lower back pain, blood in the urine, or dizziness after an injury, in order to receive early diagnosis and treatment and prevent dangerous complications.
