Biodiversity in Dam River

The Dam River plays a crucial role in the development of the ecological urban area of ​​Tam Ky City. It has a water surface area of ​​approximately 200 hectares; the total lake basin, including surrounding villages, covers about 650 hectares. The Dam River boasts a diverse and rich freshwater ecosystem characteristic of the South Central region. Located about 1 km from the East Sea, the Dam River is connected to the Ky Anh Tunnel – a national historical site.

According to a survey by the Vietnam Museum of Nature research team, the Dam River boasts a rich and diverse flora and fauna. 81 species of vertebrates belonging to 53 families and 20 orders were recorded; 33 different fish species belonging to 21 families, 11 orders, and one species of eel; 16 species of reptiles and amphibians; 31 species of birds, notably including the egret, listed in the 2007 Vietnam Red Book. There are 214 species of invertebrates and 211 species of insects. 170 species of higher plants belonging to 74 different families are also recorded…

The "dances" of the birds as evening falls make the Dam River ecosystem truly vibrant.

At Dam River, visitors can immerse themselves in the fresh, cool air and enjoy watching flocks of white egrets returning to the sky after a day of foraging far from home.

It is known that Tam Ky City has been investing in infrastructure and restoring and preserving the value of the Ky Anh Tunnel National Monument, linking it with tourism in the Bai Say - Song Dam area.

Locals plant trees and forests on hills and along riverbanks with semi-submerged species such as Melaleuca alternifolia and Nipa palm; at the same time, they plant green trees such as Barringtonia acutangula, Terminalia catappa, Terminalia chebula, and Dalbergia tonkinensis... along both banks of the Dam River.

In particular, the area around Bai Say - Song Dam will soon host many activities as part of the National Biodiversity Restoration Year - Quang Nam 2024.
