This information was released at the Hanoi Urban Railway Management Board (MRB)'s conference this afternoon (January 2nd) to summarize its work in 2024 and plan for 2025.
At the conference, Mr. Nguyen Ba Son, Deputy Head of the MRB, stated that the pilot urban railway project in Hanoi, the Nhon - Hanoi Station section, has achieved an overall progress of 80.32%. The 8.5km elevated section, from station S1 to station S8, has been completed and commenced commercial operation on August 8, 2024.

For the underground section (CP03 package), progress has reached 50.54%. Specifically, TBM No. 1, which began operation on July 30, 2024, has drilled 647 meters and installed 431 tunnel lining rings. TBM No. 2 is expected to commence construction in January 2025.
Regarding the construction project of urban railway line No. 2, the section from Nam Thang Long to Tran Hung Dao, on December 16, 2024, the Prime Minister approved the adjustment of the investment policy. Currently, MRB is mobilizing consultants to finalize the adjusted project documents for submission to the Hanoi People's Committee for approval.
Regarding land clearance, the depot area, with a total area of 17.58 hectares to be acquired, has had its agricultural land cleared so far. The land designated for government agencies, defense purposes, and residential areas is currently being surveyed.
For the elevated station section, the investor and local authorities have cleared approximately 92% of the land. For the underground station section, approximately 79% of the land has been cleared.
For projects under preparation for investment, on June 21, 2024, MRB coordinated with the Railway Project Management Board (Ministry of Transport) to receive dossiers and documents for Line 1 (Ngoc Hoi – Yen Vien).
The Standing Committee of the Hanoi City Party Committee unanimously agreed on the principle of cooperating with China Railway Construction Corporation No. 6 Group Co., Ltd. in researching the extension of Line 2A (Ha Dong - Xuan Mai).
Meanwhile, regarding line 3.2 (Hanoi Station - Hoang Mai), the Ministry of Planning and Investment has submitted a report stating that the project meets the criteria for the Prime Minister's approval of the ODA funding proposal. The Board is currently finalizing the procedures for selecting a contractor for the technical assistance project.
Regarding Line 5 (Van Cao - Hoa Lac), after the Capital City Law 2024 comes into effect, the Ministry of Planning and Investment will transfer the pre-feasibility study report to the city for further implementation within its jurisdiction.
The elevated section of the Nhon - Hanoi Station Metro line attracts many passengers.
According to Vice Chairman of the Hanoi People's Committee Duong Duc Tuan, the commercial operation of the 8.5km elevated section of the Nhon - Hanoi Station pilot urban railway, serving thousands of passengers daily, is a significant milestone for the capital's public transport system. However, some projects are still behind schedule.
In directing the tasks for 2025, Mr. Duong Duc Tuan requested MRB to focus on accelerating the progress of key projects, completing the underground section of the Nhon - Hanoi Station urban railway line, and promptly restarting the Nam Thang Long - Tran Hung Dao Line 2 project. This is a crucial task requiring high concentration and timely resolution of difficulties and obstacles.
At the same time, MRB is enhancing its management and operational capabilities and applying technology in project monitoring, ensuring progress, quality, and safety in construction. It is closely coordinating with departments, agencies, and localities to resolve bottlenecks, expedite land clearance, and create favorable conditions for contractors to carry out construction.
