On May 18, Viettel Sports Center announced a new contract with striker Mohamed Essa.
Mohamed Essa joins Viettel Club
It is known that this striker used to play for the Egyptian U20 team and played with Liverpool star Mohamed Salah for 2 seasons at the Arab Contractor Club.
“When I was 17, I was the youngest player to play in the Egyptian Premier League. I also scored important goals as a member of the Egyptian U20 national team.
I played in Poland for 6 seasons, including a spell with Gornik Leczna, in Liga 1.
Last year, I played in Thailand and had an impressive season,” said Mohamed Essa.
In the 2022-2023 season, Mohamed Essam played 30 matches and scored 18 goals.
The striker born in 1994 played for both clubs and helped both clubs get promoted to Thai League 1.
In the early stages, Mohamed Essam played for Nakhon Pathom Utd - the team that just won the Thai League 2 championship this year.
Here, Mohamed Essam scored 9 goals, helping the team finish in 2nd place after the first phase of Thai League 2 ended.
He then moved to Trat FC - the team currently ranked 11th in the Thai League.
Mohamed Essam scored 4 goals in the first 4 matches, and then had a series of 8 consecutive wins. At the end of the season, Trat FC finished as runners-up and were promoted.
“Although I have played in Europe for 6 years, I am still extremely surprised by Viettel's facilities and investment in my team.
Thai football requires more technical and tactical skills, but from my research, in V-League players run more, are more active, collide more and are more harsh.
I am eager to get on the field and enjoy the V-League atmosphere more than anyone else right now,” said the former Egyptian U20 player.
Meanwhile, Colonel Do Manh Dung, Director of the Sports Center, shared: “After the absence of Geovane Mango due to injury, the addition of Mohamed Essam is very necessary for Viettel FC at this time.”
