The workshop was attended by General Pham Van Tra, former member of the Politburo, former Minister of National Defense . General Nguyen Tan Cuong, member of the Party Central Committee, member of the Central Military Commission, Chief of the General Staff of the Vietnam People's Army, Deputy Minister of National Defense chaired the workshop.

The General Staff of the Vietnam People's Army was organized, educated and trained by the Party and President Ho Chi Minh "to command and operate the armed forces throughout the country", "is the confidential military agency of the organization, an important agency of the Army", with the task of organizing and training the Army well; organizing to grasp the enemy and ourselves clearly, to devise clever strategies; organizing to command smoothly, secretly, quickly, promptly and accurately to defeat all enemies and protect the revolution".

Over 80 years of construction, fighting and growth under the leadership of the Party and President Ho Chi Minh , often and directly by the Central Military Commission and the Ministry of National Defense; with the love, care and wholehearted support of the Party Committees, authorities and people of the whole country; inheriting and promoting the glorious traditions of the People's Army and the heroic Vietnamese nation, the General Staff has highly promoted the bravery, intelligence and military art of Vietnam, achieving many feats and outstanding achievements in the wars of national liberation as well as in the cause of building and defending the Fatherland.

The workshop is an opportunity for generals and scientists to discuss, analyze and clarify the role of the General Staff in the 80-year journey of building, fighting, winning and developing.
