Major General Nguyen Duc Huy was born in 1931 in Hung Yen, joined the revolution in 1945, enlisted in the army in 1948, and retired in 1996. During the period from 1968 to 1975, he achieved many outstanding feats in major campaigns: Route 9-Khe Sanh Spring-Summer 1968, liberating Quang Tri in 1972, liberating Thua Thien Hue in March 1975, liberating Da Nang on March 29, 1975, liberating Phan Thiet town, the historic Ho Chi Minh Campaign... In the positions assigned to him, he always demonstrated his steadfast political will, creative thinking, many strategies, and commanding talent, contributing significantly to the great victory of the nation and the unification of the country.

On behalf of the President of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam, Lieutenant General Pham Duc Duyen awarded the title of Hero of the People's Armed Forces to Major General Nguyen Duc Huy.

Speaking at the ceremony, Lieutenant General Pham Duc Duyen affirmed that this is not only an honor for Major General Nguyen Duc Huy personally, his family, clan, and hometown, but also a common pride for the Armed Forces of Military Region 2, Army Corps 12, Division 304, and the entire army. With more than 48 years of service, 76 years of Party membership, he is a brave and loyal general who has devoted himself completely to the revolutionary cause, from fighting for national liberation, fulfilling international obligations to building and defending the Fatherland.

In daily life, he continued to uphold the noble qualities of Uncle Ho's soldiers, lived a virtuous and loyal life, actively participated in giving opinions on important issues of military art, national defense strategy, and fought to protect the Party's ideological foundation. He was a shining example of personality, responsibility, loyalty to comrades, and love for the people.

Speaking his feelings, Major General Nguyen Duc Huy emotionally expressed: “The achievements that I am recognized for today are the achievements of the heroic martyrs, of my comrades who fought with me during the fierce years. I would like to express my gratitude and dedicate this honor to my comrades and family, and at the same time thank the Party, the State, the Central Military Commission, and the Military Region 2 Command for recognizing, verifying, and presenting this noble title to me.”

Major General Nguyen Duc Huy also affirmed that despite his old age, he will continue to exercise and encourage his children and grandchildren to contribute their efforts and intelligence to building the country.
