The working delegation inspected the mine and explosive clearance work of Lung Lo Construction Corporation and the mine and explosive clearance teams of the following units: Brigade 543 (Lao Cai Provincial Military Command), Dien Bien Provincial Military Command.
The task of clearing mines and explosives (Component Project No. 2) is part of the Project "Clearing mines and explosives on the Vietnam - China border". The areas that need to be cleared have a high level of contamination with mines and explosives; many areas where people cannot carry out production, agriculture and forestry. The terrain of the construction areas is mostly high hills and mountains, with steep slopes, and many types of explosives are arranged irregularly, causing many difficulties for the forces in carrying out the task.

With a positive, urgent and responsible spirit, after more than 6 months of construction, the units have completed more than 1,550 hectares out of a total area of 2,050 hectares that needed to be cleared, reaching more than 75% of the progress.
The clearance process discovered, classified, transported, and isolated more than 2,250 mines, grenades, and bullets of various types; nearly 265,000 pieces of bombs, bullets, shells, and other types of magnetic scrap, ensuring the safety of people, vehicles, and equipment.
Major General Nguyen Dang Khai, Deputy Commander and Chief of Staff of Military Region 2, inspected clearance equipment and monitored the bomb and explosive clearance force of Brigade 543 performing its mission. |
After listening to the units' reports and inspecting the actual situation, Major General Nguyen Dang Khai acknowledged and commended the proactive spirit in preparing and implementing the project of the units.
Notably, additional training was provided to the forces participating in the implementation of mine and explosive clearance in the field in a strict and quality manner; full mobilization of forces, equipment, machinery, and construction organization to ensure absolute safety and on schedule. During the camping, the units strictly maintained regular order, managed the troops, maintained strict discipline, and performed well the mass mobilization work.
The working delegation encouraged officers and soldiers of Brigade 543 to participate in bomb and mine clearance. |
To ensure progress and quality of mine and explosive clearance for the remaining area in the coming time, the working group of Military Region 2 requires units to thoroughly grasp the tasks of their troops; proactively review the workload, adjust the number of troops, and supplement clearance equipment; strictly implement the survey process before clearance, clearance and post-clearance processing procedures, and absolutely not be subjective or negligent.
Along with that, units need to closely coordinate with local Party committees, authorities and relevant units to organize the collection, isolation and destruction of bombs, mines and explosives in accordance with regulations, ensuring safety; strictly comply with border regulations and agreements when implementing the project.
On this occasion, the working delegation of Military Region 2 Command inspected the accommodation and living quarters of the soldiers; encouraged officers and soldiers to perform their duties and presented gifts to the units.
