After finishing their lunch, the officers and soldiers of Regiment 209, Division 312 (Corps 12) soon fell into a deep sleep on the first floor of the Thai Nguyen Newspaper and Radio-Television Station (Facility 1) on Ben Oanh Street, Phan Dinh Phung Ward. Any place they could lean or lie down on helped the soldiers get a good night's sleep after hours of strenuous work.
For nearly a week now, the forces from Regiment 209 assisting local authorities in flood relief efforts have been waking up at 4:15 AM, then having breakfast, mobilizing to the assembly point at Vo Nguyen Giap Square, Phan Dinh Phung Ward, and then fanning out in various directions to carry out their assigned tasks, with the largest concentration still on Ben Oanh Street.

The scorching heat, the enormous amount of mud and garbage, and the stench made anyone passing through Ben Oanh Street feel dizzy. However, after five days of wading through mud and garbage, working tirelessly, the unit and other forces managed to clear the flooded road, making it passable by the afternoon of October 13th. Sergeant Nguyen Xuan Hoang (Platoon 9, Company 3, Battalion 7, Regiment 209) shared: “My parents are in business, so I don’t have to do heavy work. Training in the military has improved my health, allowing me to work hard in harsh conditions. When we’re tired, we encourage each other and tell ourselves we need to try our best to help the people stabilize their lives as soon as possible. In the afternoon, we return to the unit around 8 pm, quickly shower, eat dinner, and go to bed.”

For several consecutive days, officers and soldiers of the 13th Artillery Command Battalion, 1st Military Region Headquarters, carried out their duties at Thai Market (also known as the Central Market) clearing mud and debris and retrieving and moving flooded goods for the vendors. The soldiers' enthusiastic and responsible work ethic deeply impressed Ms. Vu Thuy Hang, many vendors, and the Thai Market Management Board. The vendors bought snacks and drinks to give to the soldiers; Ms. Vu Thuy Hang even used her only electric fan to help the soldiers during their breaks. Ms. Hang said: “The hot weather and the smell of mud and garbage made the officers and soldiers' work even harder. But no one complained of fatigue; they all worked very enthusiastically and seriously. I am truly impressed and grateful for the sense of responsibility and the work ethic of the soldiers of Uncle Ho's army.”
