After lunch, the officers and soldiers of Regiment 209, Division 312 (12th Corps) soon fell into a deep sleep on the first floor of Thai Nguyen Radio and Television Station (Base 1) on Ben Oanh Street, Phan Dinh Phung Ward. Any place to lean or lie down would help the soldiers sleep soundly after hours of hard work.

For nearly a week now, the force helping the locality overcome the consequences of the flood of Regiment 209 has been waking up at 4:15 am, then having breakfast, moving to the assembly point at Vo Nguyen Giap Square, Phan Dinh Phung ward, then spreading out in all directions to carry out the task according to the contract, the largest concentration is still on Ben Oanh street.

The intense heat, the huge amount of mud and garbage and the stench made anyone passing Ben Oanh Street feel dizzy. However, after 5 days of wading through mud and garbage, the unit and other forces made the flooded road clear, and by the afternoon of October 13, it was possible to travel conveniently. Sergeant Nguyen Xuan Hoang (Platoon 9, Company 3, Battalion 7, Regiment 209) shared: “My parents are in business so I don’t have to do heavy work. Through training in the military environment, my health is better, I can do heavy work in harsh conditions. When we are tired, we encourage each other and tell ourselves to try our best to help people stabilize their lives soon. In the afternoon, we moved back to the unit at 8 pm, we quickly took a shower, had dinner and went to bed.”

Carrying out tasks at the Thai market area (also known as the Central Market) for several consecutive days, officers and soldiers of the 13th Artillery Command Battalion, General Staff of Military Region 1 cleaned up mud and salvaged and transported flooded goods to help traders. The enthusiastic and responsible working spirit of the soldiers made Ms. Vu Thuy Hang and many traders and the Thai market management board very grateful. The traders bought more snacks and drinks to give to the soldiers; and Ms. Vu Thuy Hang also brought out the only electric fan to serve the soldiers during their break. Ms. Hang said: “The hot weather and the smell of mud and garbage made the officers and soldiers work harder. However, no one complained of being tired and still worked very enthusiastically and seriously. I am really impressed and grateful for the sense of responsibility and style of Uncle Ho's soldiers.”
