Dak Lak urgently overcomes landslides on National Highway 19C

On the morning of November 19, in Hoa Binh village, Van Hoa commune, Dak Lak province, a landslide occurred due to heavy rain, causing National Highway 19C to be blocked, making it impossible for vehicles to pass.

According to Mr. Nguyen Minh Hoai, Chairman of Van Hoa Commune People's Committee, the landslide point is at km 87 on National Highway 19C. As soon as receiving the information, the local authorities coordinated with the militia and the commune police force to be present at the scene and mobilized people to participate in the repair. The forces dug, dredged rocks and soil, opened drainage ditches, cleared and collected mud and soil that had spilled onto the road surface, creating a temporary path for vehicles to pass. The forces also placed warning signs and stood guard to prevent people from passing through the dangerous area.

The locality is continuing to coordinate with forces to clear the route. Currently, the units have cleared one lane, the rest is still being handled, and efforts will be made from now until the afternoon to clear the route for traffic to pass, Mr. Hoai informed.

According to the report of the Department of Agriculture and Environment of Dak Lak province, heavy rains from November 15 to 19 in the province have been causing flooding in many localities, isolating many residential areas. The recent floods have caused flooding, landslides, and flash floods in most of the 34 communes and wards in the East and some communes in the West of the province. Many sections of National Highways and Provincial Roads were also flooded, causing traffic jams and danger to passing vehicles. At National Highway 29, there were 13 flooded points with traffic jams and 3 flooded points but vehicles could still pass. Many sections of National Highway 1A, Provincial Highway 12, and National Highway 19C were also eroded and flooded. The authorities are also deploying forces to block off, place warning signs and stand guard to prevent people from passing through dangerous areas.

It is forecasted that from noon to evening of November 19, floods in Ky Lo, Tam Giang rivers and the downstream of Ba river will continue to rise. Warnings of widespread flooding in communes, risk of flash floods and landslides in steep terrain, flooding in residential areas and some roads in urban areas. Therefore, it is recommended that water levels in rivers and streams across the province are at very high levels, with fast flowing water. People should be extremely careful when participating in traffic and activities near spillways, along rivers and streams, and in mountainous terrain.
