Speaking at a meeting of veteran revolutionary cadres, meritorious individuals, and exemplary policy beneficiary families in the northern region, held on the afternoon of April 15 in Hanoi , General Secretary To Lam addressed a topic of great interest to many delegates and the public: the fight against corruption, waste, and negative practices.

Regarding the fight against corruption and negative practices, Comrade To Lam stated that after the death of General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong, some people worried that the fight against corruption and negative practices would slow down or be forgotten. However, in reality, the fight against corruption and negative practices continues to be implemented decisively, synchronously, comprehensively, systematically, and in depth, with no forbidden areas and no exceptions.

The Politburo and the Secretariat unanimously agreed on the principle of continuing to strengthen the fight against corruption and negative phenomena, and decided to add the fight against waste to the scope of combating wastefulness, creating a "trio to be eliminated" namely "corruption - wastefulness - negative phenomena". This decision has created a significant deterrent and warning effect, and this work will continue to be carried out resolutely, persistently, and continuously in the coming period.

The Politburo and the Secretariat of the Central Committee have added functions and tasks related to preventing and combating waste to the Central and provincial-level Steering Committees, with a focus on directing the prevention and combating of waste in the management and use of public finances and public assets.

"In the coming period, we also need a nationwide movement to practice thrift and combat wastefulness in the lives of each family and each individual, because wastefulness in society is still very significant," General Secretary To Lam stated.

From the beginning of 2024 to April 2025, judicial agencies nationwide initiated investigations into 6,086 cases involving 13,791 defendants, prosecuted 5,040 cases involving 13,519 defendants, and conducted first-instance trials in 5,134 cases involving 11,718 defendants for corruption, economic, and official misconduct crimes. Of these, 1,197 new cases and 4,811 defendants were prosecuted for corruption. Party committees and inspection committees at all levels disciplined 107 Party organizations and 3,209 Party members. Disciplinary action was also taken against 70 officials under central government management...

According to the General Secretary, wastefulness is a very alarming issue. In some respects, wastefulness causes even greater losses than corruption and negative practices. For example, according to a report from the Ministry of Public Security, there are still 2,805 projects nationwide that are delayed or not put into use, posing a risk of waste. Initial assessments indicate that 483 projects, covering 19,775 hectares of land, have not yet been put into use. Provinces preliminarily report 3,495 projects behind schedule, and 54,293 hectares of land that are delayed or not yet in use.

General Secretary To Lam affirmed that the fight against corruption, waste, and negative phenomena will continue to be carried out by the Party with determination and decisiveness, without any forbidden areas or exceptions. In particular, during the process of organizing Party congresses at all levels, restructuring the administrative system, reorganizing personnel, relocating agency headquarters, abolishing district-level organizations, and reorganizing commune-level organizations... the possibility of opportunistic exploitation and corruption, waste, and negative phenomena will not be ruled out.

"Therefore, in addition to the primary responsibilities of the political system, the Central and provincial Steering Committees for preventing and combating corruption, waste, and negative phenomena, I earnestly hope that comrades and the people will participate even more strongly in the task of preventing and combating corruption, waste, and negative phenomena," the General Secretary suggested.
