Specifically, foreign direct investment (FDI) into Vietnam in the first four months of the year reached US$18.24 billion, an increase of over 32% compared to the same period last year. This is the highest amount of FDI disbursed in the first four months of the year in the past five years. Similarly, the number of international visitors to Vietnam in the past four months reached 8.8 million, an increase of 14.6% compared to the same period last year and the highest number for the first four months of any year ever. Notably, both of these record figures were achieved amidst the Middle East conflict, which severely impacted the global economy, affecting investment flows, aviation, tourism, and more. Many predictions of a decline in international visitors and foreign investment were made; however, Vietnam once again overcame these headwinds to set records in these two important economic indicators.
The question is, what is our "secret" to achieving these impressive results? The answer lies in macroeconomic stability, which the Party and State have always considered the most important task in the country's economic growth and development. Even during the current period of high growth targets, this perspective remains consistently upheld.
Specifically, in his closing remarks at the 2nd Conference of the 14th Central Committee of the Communist Party of Vietnam, General Secretary To Lam emphasized the importance of adhering to the principle of macroeconomic stability, controlling inflation, and ensuring major balances. This is a prerequisite and a crucial pillar determining the flexible, safe, and efficient operation of the entire economy. The General Secretary directed that the management of fiscal, monetary, and other macroeconomic policies must be proactive, flexible, and closely coordinated, supporting reasonable growth while simultaneously strengthening market confidence, stabilizing expectations, and enhancing the economy's resilience to external shocks. In reality, this approach has proven effective, with a stable economy becoming a significant advantage for Vietnam amidst increasingly complex global geopolitical developments. As evidence, investment capital flows, and leading companies in the world's high-tech sector, have been and continue to flock to Vietnam, creating an impressive series of FDI attraction achievements as mentioned above.
If macroeconomic stability is an advantage that helps Vietnam attract FDI, then being a safe destination is also a prominent advantage in competing to attract international tourists. This is perfectly understandable because no one wants to travel to places where they are constantly worried about risks and political instability. Conversely, a beautiful, hospitable, and safe country, where you can comfortably explore day or night, in urban or rural areas, even remote regions, will naturally attract the attention of international tourists. Vietnam possesses all of these qualities. Not to mention that our cuisine, people, products, and tourism infrastructure are constantly being recognized in prestigious world awards. On social media, many posts praising Vietnam and its people come from tourists who have experienced and evaluated the country themselves.
Looking back at 2025, exports also set a record with the highest turnover in history, even as Vietnam, and the world in general, had to bear additional reciprocal tariffs from the US. In the first four months of this year, imports and exports still increased strongly despite fluctuating logistics costs due to the oil price crisis... This reiterates that behind these record figures lies the correct direction, strategic vision, and resilience of the Vietnamese economy.
Although there are still nearly eight months to go before reaching the finish line, the above results show a good start for the economy. This result also creates momentum and provides impetus for the following quarters to achieve the double-digit growth target this year that the Party and State are resolutely pursuing.
