'Reviving' heritage through technology and social media.

Previously, visiting historical sites relied primarily on guided tours and on-site experiences. Now, in Thai Nguyen, history is being recreated in digital language. With just a smart device, viewers can access heritage spaces through 3D images, 360-degree videos, QR codes, and online platforms, opening up a new, more intuitive and flexible approach to the past.

This change represents a technological advancement and a shift in the way historical values are conveyed, from reliance on physical spaces to a digital environment, and from passive reception to active interaction by locals and tourists.

In February 2026, at the National Historical Site where the first Communist Party branch of Thai Nguyen province was established in La Bang commune, a youth project to digitize the site was inaugurated. The project applies VR360 technology, an automated commentary system, and electronic information boards, improving accessibility for locals and tourists.

Besides contributing to the preservation and promotion of revolutionary heritage values, the project also clearly demonstrates the pioneering role of young people in digital transformation. Ms. Pham Thi Thu Hien, Secretary of the Youth Union of La Bang commune, said: The implementation process was carried out in coordination between the Youth Union organization, the Culture sector, and telecommunications units, with Youth Union members responsible for collecting materials, recording on-site footage, and compiling data for digitization.

The trend of digitizing historical sites continues to spread strongly in the Định Hóa ATK region. To date, 16 historical sites have been equipped with virtual reality and 360-degree video technology, and more than 100 sites have been located on digital maps.

In locations such as Lam Vy – formerly associated with the Ordnance Department; and Dinh Hoa, home to the K77 Dinh Hoa Military Ordnance Factory, QR codes have been installed at the entrances to these historical sites. With just a few seconds of scanning, users can access complete documentation including images, videos, and explanatory texts about the site's history. Technology has helped overcome the limitations of space and time, bringing heritage closer to the public.

However, for history to truly resonate in modern life, technology needs to be combined with digital media. In Thai Nguyen, the methods of transmission have changed significantly, from lengthy reports to concise, visual products such as infographics, podcasts, and short videos on social media platforms.

In Dai Tu commune, the information system on the Zalo platform operates in parallel with the Dai Tu - Thai Nguyen Youth fanpage on Facebook. On commemorative occasions, such as the founding day of the Vietnam People's Army (December 22) or the founding day of the Youth Union (March 26), content is conveyed in the form of short videos, documentary images, and historical stories instead of dry administrative reports. The media products focus on journeys to historical roots, recreating historical events and stories about heroic martyrs, thereby creating a natural spread within the community, especially among young people.

The application of modern media in history education in Thai Nguyen is not simply a technological trend, but a sustainable traditional education strategy. Experience shows that the younger generation is not indifferent to history, but rather needs more appropriate approaches in the digital environment.

In the context of digital transformation, Thai Nguyen is gradually turning its heritage into digital resources, connecting the past with the present through technology. History is thus preserved and recreated in the language of the modern era, making it more vibrant, relatable, and sustainable in community life.
