These days, bookstores and shops throughout the province are bustling with parents and students looking to buy textbooks, reference books, notebooks, and school supplies in preparation for the new school year. Walking around bookstores and shops in the wards of Yen Bai , Nam Cuong, Lao Cai, etc., textbooks and reference books from grades 1 to 12 are readily available and diverse.

This year, parents tend to buy books early, with the busiest times usually being weekends and afternoon rush hour. At Tam Lien Bookstore and Stationery Shop at km4, Dien Bien Street, Yen Bai Ward, the bookshelves for each grade level are arranged scientifically. In particular, there is a separate display shelf for textbooks of the new general education program, making it easier for parents and students to observe and choose. Since the end of May, the shop has fully prepared all kinds of books and equipment for the new school year.
In addition to pre-packaged textbooks, we also offer flexible retail sales. Our sales staff are trained and equipped with knowledge about various types of textbooks, assisting students and parents in choosing books that suit the conditions and specific characteristics of each school, ensuring that they purchase the right, complete, and high-quality books.
At the Sun Bookstore, a subsidiary of Lao Cai Book and Educational Equipment Joint Stock Company, the shopping atmosphere was equally vibrant. While buying books for her child, Ms. Dao Thi Thanh Luong, from sub-district 9, Cam Duong ward, said: “This year my child is entering first grade. Although it’s the first year of primary school, the school has already sent a list of textbooks, making shopping easier. I’m taking advantage of buying early so my child has all the necessary books and school supplies for the new school year.”
To proactively supply textbooks and supplementary books for the 2025-2026 school year, Lao Cai Book and Educational Equipment Joint Stock Company has coordinated with the education sector to survey students' textbook needs. Based on this, they have developed a plan and proactively ordered various types of textbooks and reference books. Thanks to this proactive supply, the company has been delivering books to stores and distributors since June 2025. Currently, the company has delivered approximately 70% of its planned textbooks to schools and bookstores in the former Lao Cai province, basically meeting the textbook needs for the new school year.
In 2025, the Ministry of Education and Training will finalize the 2018 General Education Program, applying new textbooks to all grade levels. Three sets of textbooks – “Connecting Knowledge with Life,” “Kite,” and “Creative Horizons” – will remain unchanged, reassuring parents that they will not incur additional costs for textbook replacements as was the case in the early years of the new program's implementation.
Furthermore, with the completion of the 2018 general education curriculum, students can reuse old textbooks, resulting in a lower volume of textbooks and reference books being imported by companies and bookstores in the province.
Compared to the previous school year, the prices of textbooks and reference books this year have been adjusted down by about 5% by publishers; each set of books costs between 145,000 VND and nearly 400,000 VND, depending on the grade level and publisher. This price is considered reasonable by many parents and eases the financial burden compared to the early years of implementing the new textbook program.

Along with textbooks, various school supplies are also being purchased by many parents and students for the new school year. At stores, school supplies are displayed in large quantities, with a wide variety of types and designs, ensuring that the shopping needs of parents and students are fully met.
Products from domestic brands such as Thien Long, Hong Ha, Ben Nghe, Bai Bang, etc., are favored by consumers due to their diverse designs and good quality. Prices for school bags, backpacks, and book bags for students have not fluctuated much compared to the same period last year, averaging from 200,000 to 300,000 VND per item depending on the design and material.
Bookstores and shops are implementing promotional programs and offering many attractive deals to attract customers… It is worth noting that e-commerce platforms also advertise and sell a wide variety of books and school supplies; however, parents and students should go to reputable stores to buy books, avoiding counterfeit, low-quality, or pirated books.

Thanks to proactive preparations by suppliers, price stabilization policies, and promotional programs, this year's back-to-school market shows many positive signs. This not only reduces the financial burden on parents but also contributes to a truly exciting, fulfilling, and smooth start to the new school year for students.
