Highlights of the week of science, technology, culture, tourism, and rice

Concluding the Science, Technology, Culture, Tourism Week and the first Mekong Delta Delicious Rice Competition in 2026, Ca Mau left a clear mark with a series of synchronized activities, from exhibitions and competitions to networking workshops, thereby affirming its role as a "hub" promoting linkages in the regional rice industry.

Taking place from April 24th to May 1st, the event, featuring over 200 booths, is not only a space to promote scientific and technological achievements but also a gathering place for modern agricultural production models, especially in the rice sector. The overarching theme is the connection between research, production, and the market – a key factor in enhancing the value of rice in an increasingly competitive environment.

At the highlight of the week, the first Mekong Delta Delicious Rice Competition honored outstanding products, with the first prize going to Ba Dinh rice-shrimp from Ba Dinh General Agricultural Cooperative ( Ca Mau ). This result not only recognizes the quality of the product but also reflects the correct direction of the locality in developing a sustainable rice-shrimp model that adapts to climate change.

Simultaneously, the workshop "Connecting Production and Consumption in the Rice Industry" created a forum for frank exchange between managers, businesses, and cooperatives. Presentations focused on solutions for building value chains, developing brands, applying technology, and digital transformation in production. Many memoranda of cooperation and consumption linkage contracts were signed at the workshop, opening up opportunities to form stable raw material areas and improve production efficiency.

According to reports from relevant authorities, rice production linkages in Ca Mau have seen significant development, with over 53,000 hectares linked between businesses and cooperatives, and a consumption volume of approximately 320,000 tons, accounting for nearly 17% of the province's total output. High-tech application models have initially shown effectiveness in reducing costs, increasing productivity, and boosting profits for farmers.

Beyond just production, the week also contributes to promoting the local image through culinary spaces, tourism, and cultural activities, creating an overall picture of a dynamic, creative, and potentially rich Ca Mau. This is also an opportunity for the province to attract investment and expand cooperation with domestic and foreign businesses, research institutes, and universities.

In reality, organizing competitions, seminars, and exhibitions simultaneously has created a rare "event value chain," where products are celebrated, models are shared, and markets are connected. Through this, rice is recognized not only for its production value but also for its brand story, technology, and sustainable development.

With the results achieved, the 2026 Rice Week is not only a promotional event, but also a strategic step to help Ca Mau better define its role in the rice value chain of the Mekong Delta, aiming to elevate the status of Vietnamese rice in domestic and international markets.
