65th anniversary of the birth of the world's first instant noodle package

The first instant noodle package was born on August 25, 1958, a historic invention by Mr. Momofuku Ando - founder of Nissin Group.

The first instant noodles were invented after World War II, when Japan was devastated and had a severe food shortage. The sight of Japanese people, including the elderly and children, lining up to buy bowls of noodles under the cold night sky gave Momofuku Ando the idea of ​​a type of noodle that could be stored at room temperature, and enjoyed at home right after adding hot water, at an affordable price for everyone.

Since he was not a professional noodle chef, his experiments were met with continuous failure, but he did not give up. His biggest challenge at that time was "how to preserve noodles for a long time". He kept looking for ways to separate water from noodles, because moisture would make noodles spoil quickly at room temperature.

Until one day, in the family kitchen, from the traditional Tempura dish that his wife still made, Mr. Momofuku Ando discovered that frying in hot oil helped the outer layer of the dough become dehydrated and crispy, preserving the dough for a long time. This method was applied to the frying process of noodles, starting the invention of instant noodles later.

On August 25, 1958, the world's first instant noodle package called "Chicken Ramen" was born with a simple preparation method: add boiling water and wait two minutes to eat. This was considered a breakthrough in the world culinary industry at that time. At that time, Mr. Momofuku Ando was 48 years old.

Not stopping at Chicken Ramen, Mr. Momofuku Ando also invented the world's first cup noodles on September 18, 1971, called Cup Noodles, making eating noodles more popular and convenient. He then launched Space Ram noodles specifically for astronauts in 2005, when he was 94 years old.
