To do well on the Literature exam
Greetings to all students!

There is only one day left until the official start of the 10th grade entrance exam in Ben Tre province.
Perhaps you are all feeling anxious and nervous right now as you face this important exam, with all the hopes of getting into your dream school!
At this very moment, parents and teachers alike are waiting and hoping!
That anxiety is doubled for those students who aspire to take the entrance exam for Ben Tre Specialized High School in general, and for the specialized Literature class in particular.
She wrote this letter hoping to convey all her sympathy and share her experiences to help her be better prepared and achieve good results in the Literature exam when she enters this exam period.
  1. Regarding health and mental well-being during the exam.
Good health is the first condition for any success. Therefore, please maintain a reasonable diet and rest schedule to ensure you are in the best health when entering the exam period.
Furthermore, you need to stay calm and avoid excessive stress or anxiety. Remember that your teachers have reviewed all the necessary knowledge with you. You have also studied and practiced diligently throughout this time. Therefore, be confident because you have prepared thoroughly, and a strong mindset will help you fully utilize your abilities in your work.
  1. Regarding the method of answering the questions.
To achieve high scores in the 10th grade Literature exam, knowledge alone is not enough; students also need smart test-taking methods. For each section and type of question, students should practice appropriate ways of answering, presenting, and explaining their answers.

* Reading Comprehension Section

- Identify keywords

For the Reading Comprehension section, the test will provide text to answer the questions. The key to scoring high in this section is to read and underline keywords in the questions before reading the text. This way, you can identify the content to focus on while reading, avoiding getting sidetracked by unnecessary information.

- Identify the question type

After reading and understanding the main idea of the question, students should identify the question type to guide their answer. For the Reading Comprehension section, questions are usually categorized as follows:
Recognition type: This usually requires students to read and extract information related to modes of expression, the main content of the text, rhetorical devices used, etc.
Comprehension type: This usually requires students to connect and link information, and interpret what they have read, in order to assess their level of understanding of the question.
Application type: This type of assessment is typically used to evaluate the candidate's level of understanding and ability to apply their knowledge to real-world experiences.

- Find the information that matches the question's requirements.

This is a section that students need to pay special attention to because it is very important for their work. Although the questions in the reading comprehension section are only at the comprehension level, many students often lose points due to unclear and incomplete explanations.
For example, when the question asks to identify and analyze the effect of a figure of speech, students should present their answers in the following order: Name the figure of speech (quote a sentence using the figure of speech); Analyze its effect (what the figure of speech highlights, its characteristics, its meaning in relation to the sentence, etc.); Evaluate the writer's ability (in terms of attitude, emotion, observation skills, imagination, etc.).

* Social commentary section

When writing a social commentary essay, remember that it must answer four questions: What is the issue? How is the issue manifested? How is the issue proven in reality? What is the impact of the issue on life (positive or negative)? What lessons can be learned and actions taken from the issue? A well-structured essay will be highly rated when it clearly states the main points, provides convincing evidence or explanations, and is based on factual evidence. Therefore, students should practice extensively to avoid losing points in this section.

* Literary analysis section

For poetry analysis, students need to ensure their essays cover the following main points: Summarize the main content of the poem/stanza; explain the effect of the literary devices used in the stanza (analyze and explain the meaning of these rhetorical devices); and summarize and evaluate the author's feelings expressed through the work and the analyzed stanza. In particular, in this section, students should adhere closely to the given stanza, avoiding digressions into other topics that could lead to irrelevant content.
For narrative texts, students need to pay attention to elements such as: Plot (main events, the sequence of events); Narrative perspective (the significance of using this perspective in the work); Characters (their circumstances, personalities, and roles in the work); and the work's theme (the meaning of the theme, artistic details, and their significance to the work).
In addition, in terms of format, students should present their arguments in a structured manner, dividing them into smaller paragraphs with consistency and coherence between them.
3. Regarding time allocation
Proper time management is also crucial for exam success. Each section of the questions requires appropriate time allocation to ensure the quality of each answer and the completion of the entire test.

Above are some tips for the 10th grade entrance exam in Literature. Hopefully, these tips will be helpful for you in this important exam. Wishing you a successful exam and many enjoyable experiences!
