According to the structure, assessment requirements, and competency scale of the subjects in the 2026-2027 10th grade entrance exam in Ho Chi Minh City, the Literature subject has undergone several notable adjustments, aiming to comprehensively assess students' abilities through two main pillars: reading comprehension and writing.
In the reading comprehension section, the text in the exam will be taken outside of the textbook, including literary texts and one of two types of texts: argumentative or informational. The total length of the text should not exceed 1,300 words.
The writing section consists of two forms: paragraphs and essays. In the paragraph form (approximately 200 words), candidates record their thoughts on a poem or stanza, or analyze the content, theme, artistic techniques, and aesthetic effect of the work.
For the essay, students write social commentary essays in two ways: presenting their personal opinions and viewpoints (agreeing or disagreeing) on a life issue, or proposing feasible and persuasive solutions to a problem that needs solving. This type of question reflects the orientation towards developing students' critical thinking skills, logical reasoning, and ability to present their personal viewpoints.
