According to information from the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Education and Training, following the direction of the 2018 General Education Program, this year's Mathematics exam has undergone many changes to limit rote learning and encourage self-study and creativity. The Mathematics exam consists of 7 questions with a 10-point scale, focusing on three knowledge areas: Geometry and Measurement, Numbers and Algebra, and Statistics and Probability.

The exam aims to assess students' thinking skills, mathematical reasoning, modeling abilities, and especially requires them to apply their knowledge to solve real-world problems.

Looking back at the scores from previous years, Mathematics has always been a highly challenging subject that effectively differentiates candidates. Specifically, in 2025, Ho Chi Minh City recorded over 28,000 out of more than 76,000 candidates who scored below 5 in Mathematics.

On average, more than one in three candidates scored below average. Notably, in the low-scoring group, 125 candidates scored 0.25 points; 108 candidates scored 0.5 points; 166 candidates scored 0.75 points; and 326 candidates scored 1 point.

Similarly, in 2024, out of more than 98,400 test-takers, over 55,000 scored below 5 in Mathematics, equivalent to nearly 56% of the total number of test-takers. Of these, 142 test-takers received a score of 0.5 and 188 test-takers scored only 0.75.

Nervous anticipation ahead of the 2026 Ho Chi Minh City Grade 10 Math entrance exam.

According to the schedule, in the morning, candidates will take the Mathematics exam with a time limit of 120 minutes. In the afternoon of the same day, those who applied for specialized or integrated classes will continue to take the specialized or integrated subject exam.

According to reporters, from 6 am onwards, exam locations throughout the city were bustling. Thanks to the presence of police and traffic officers who had been on duty since early morning to manage traffic flow, there was no congestion around the school gates, creating a safe environment for parents dropping off and picking up their children.

Arriving very early at the exam site, Mr. Tri (from Nha Be commune) quietly watched his daughter walk through the school gate. He said that he and his daughter had to wake up at dawn to travel the long distance.

"My work is busy, but I always try to make time to take my child to the exam. The family isn't putting pressure on us; we just hope our child studies at a school that suits their abilities," Mr. Tri shared. Before the exam, this parent carefully reminded his child to stay calm and focused on eating properly to avoid any health issues that might affect their performance.

On the part of the students, many entered the final day of the exam with confidence after successfully completing the first two subjects. However, many students also expressed nervousness and anxiety because this was an important exam. Nguyen Hien, a candidate taking the exam at Truong Chinh Secondary School, shared: "I didn't put too much pressure on myself, but just tried my best to achieve the best results."
