This year's math exam structure follows the new 2018 general education curriculum. The exam has 3 parts, with 22 questions in total. The first part is multiple choice with 12 questions, the second part is true/false with 4 questions, and the third part is short answer with 6 questions.
At the exam center at Luong Van Chanh High School for the Gifted (Tuy Hoa City), many candidates leaving the exam room said that this year's math exam could only be answered in the multiple-choice and true/false sections. Most were unable to answer the short answer section. Candidate Tran Hoang Hao, 12C3, Nguyen Trai High School, shared: "This year's math exam had a new and difficult structure."
Candidate Nguyen Ha Van, from Nguyen Hue High School (Tuy Hoa City), at the exam center at Nguyen Trai High School (Tuy Hoa City), said: "I found the exam questions closely followed the curriculum and clearly differentiated between candidates. Those who had a solid grasp of the basic knowledge could answer about 60-70% correctly."
According to teachers' assessments, this year's math exam closely followed the structure of the sample exam provided by the Ministry of Education and Training , but was more difficult. With this exam, most candidates could only answer parts I and II, and the majority will likely achieve average scores. Only outstanding students will score 8 or 9 points.
