- At this time, custard apple growers in the area are focusing on implementing measures to care for, pollinate, and monitor their trees. This contributes to increasing the fruit set rate and ensuring stable development to achieve high yields in the 2026 custard apple season.
The family of Ms. Mai Phuong Lan, in Than Muoi village, Chi Lang commune, is one of the households that have been growing custard apples for many years. These days, her family is present in the custard apple orchard almost every day to artificially pollinate the newly bloomed flowers.

Ms. Lan said: "My family currently has over 1,000 custard apple trees planted in the rocky mountain area of Lung Cut village. This year, due to erratic weather, the number of flowers is less than in previous years. Therefore, my family has to monitor them more frequently to pollinate the custard apples at the right time, helping to increase the fruit setting rate. At the same time, we are maintaining moisture, fertilizing, and pruning branches to help the trees grow well. To date, some custard apple trees have set fruit, and in about 10 days, the remaining trees will also bear fruit simultaneously. With a stable fruit setting rate, my family expects to harvest over 10 tons of custard apples this year."
In Cai Kinh commune, where over 800 hectares of custard apple trees are concentrated in 5 out of 17 villages, according to many custard apple growers there, unlike Chi Lang commune, this year the trees bloomed nearly a month earlier (from the end of April). Therefore, by mid-May 2026, most of the custard apple orchards in the area had borne fruit and were being cared for by the people, who were protecting them from pests and diseases.
Ms. Nguyen Thi Viet, from Lan Lua village, Cai Kinh commune, said: "My family has about 1,000 custard apple trees. This year, the first crop of custard apples ripened about a month earlier than usual, and the fruit setting rate is quite high. Therefore, my family has to thin out the excess fruit, keeping only about 50-60 fruits on each large tree and about 20 fruits on smaller trees. In addition, the custard apple orchards are currently producing another crop of flowers. To be able to harvest another crop, my family has to both take good care of the first crop and artificially pollinate the second crop, as well as increase watering and fertilization to supplement nutrients for the trees."
Currently, the province has nearly 5,000 hectares of custard apple trees of various types, of which about 1,500 hectares are grown according to VietGAP and GlobalGAP standards. The province's custard apple production in recent years has averaged nearly 40,000 tons per year. The area planted with custard apples is concentrated in several communes such as Chi Lang, Cai Kinh, Huu Lung, and Nhan Ly. For about a month now, as soon as the weather became favorable with rain and humidity, custard apple growers in the area have focused on pruning and shaping the trees. At the same time, they have applied fertilizer to supplement nutrients for the trees, as well as weeding and tilling the soil to ensure healthy growth and high yield and quality fruit in the new season.
In addition, in 2025, the Department of Agriculture and Environment and related units promptly provided support to farmers affected by natural disasters in some areas of custard apple orchards. In Cai Kinh commune, Huu Lung district, nearly 10 hectares of custard apple orchards damaged by storms have been replanted, cared for, and are now growing and developing stably.
Mr. Ngo The Cuong, Deputy Head of the Economic Department of Cai Kinh commune, said: From 2025 to the present, the commune has developed an additional 5 hectares of VietGAP-certified custard apples and organized 5 training courses for 250 local people on custard apple cultivation and care techniques. At the same time, in coordination with relevant agencies, it has provided 20 tons of fertilizer and supplies to 19 custard apple growers in the area. This has contributed to improving the yield and quality of custard apples.
In about two months, the new custard apple crop will be ready for harvest. With the proactive efforts of the farmers and the attention and support from all levels and sectors, it is believed that the 2026 custard apple crop will achieve high yields and quality, contributing to the economic development of the farmers. At the same time, it will also help to affirm and further develop the brand of Lang Son custard apples.
