On Christmas Eve, Northern Vietnam will experience a cold snap.

According to the National Center for Meteorological and Hydrological Forecasting, a cold front is moving southward in the North. It is forecast that by the night of December 24th, this cold front will affect the Northeast region, then the North Central region, the Northwest region, and the Central region.

From the night of December 24th, rain, showers, and thunderstorms are expected in Northern and North Central Vietnam. During thunderstorms, there is a possibility of tornadoes, lightning, hail, and strong gusts of wind. From the night of December 24th, the weather in Northern and North Central Vietnam will turn cold, with some mountainous areas experiencing severe cold; particularly in the mountainous areas of Northeast Vietnam, the weather will be intensely cold on December 25th and 26th, with some areas experiencing extreme cold. The lowest temperatures during this cold spell in Northern and North Central Vietnam will generally range from 12-15 degrees Celsius, while in the mountainous areas of Northeast Vietnam, temperatures will be 10-13 degrees Celsius, with some places below 8 degrees Celsius.

In the Hanoi area, there will be rain and showers on the night of December 24th and throughout December 25th; the weather will turn cold from the night of December 24th. The lowest temperature during this cold spell will generally be 13-15 degrees Celsius.

Due to the influence of a cold front, from December 25th, the area from Quang Tri to Da Nang, the eastern parts of the provinces from Quang Ngai to Dak Lak and Khanh Hoa will experience rain, moderate rain, and locally heavy rain and thunderstorms. During thunderstorms, there is a possibility of tornadoes, lightning, hail, and strong gusts of wind.

Severe cold weather can affect livestock and poultry, and the growth and development of crops. Localized heavy rainfall may cause flooding in low-lying areas; flash floods on small rivers and streams, and landslides on slopes; and heavy rainfall over a short period may cause flooding in urban and industrial areas. Strong winds and gusts, and large waves at sea may affect the operation of ships and other activities.

Weather forecast for specific areas on the night of December 23rd and the day of December 24th: Northwest region: Cloudy, with scattered rain; early morning fog and light mist in some areas, clearing up in the afternoon with sunshine. Light wind, cold at night. Lowest temperature 18–21°C; specifically in the Northwest region 13–16°C, with some places below 13°C; highest temperature 23–26°C, with some places above 26°C.

The Northeast region will also experience scattered rain; early morning will see fog and light mist in some areas, with decreasing cloud cover and sunny skies in the afternoon; however, mountainous areas and the Northeast region will have scattered rain during the night and morning. Southeast winds will be at level 2-3, and it will be cold at night. The lowest temperature will be 18-21 degrees Celsius, with some mountainous areas experiencing temperatures below 17 degrees Celsius; the highest temperature will be 24-27 degrees Celsius.

From Thanh Hoa to Hue, there will be scattered rain; early morning fog and light mist in some areas. In the north, clouds will decrease in the afternoon, with sunny skies. Light winds. Lowest temperature 20–23°C, highest temperature 24–27°C.

South Central Coast: The northern part will be mostly cloudy with scattered rain; the southern part will be cloudy with sunny days, and scattered showers and thunderstorms in the evening and at night. Northeast winds at level 2-3. Lowest temperature 22-25°C, highest temperature 28-31°C.

The Central Highlands will be cloudy with sunny days; scattered showers and thunderstorms are expected in the late afternoon and evening. Northeast winds will be at level 2-3. There is a possibility of tornadoes, lightning, and strong gusts of wind during thunderstorms. The lowest temperature will be 17-20°C, with some areas below 17°C; the highest temperature will be 27-30°C.

Southern Vietnam will be sunny during the day; scattered showers and thunderstorms are expected at night, with showers and scattered thunderstorms in the late afternoon and evening, and locally heavy rain in some areas. Northeast winds will be at level 2-3. There is a possibility of tornadoes, lightning, and strong gusts of wind during thunderstorms. The lowest temperature will be 23-26°C; the highest temperature will be 30-33°C, with some areas in the eastern region exceeding 33°C.

Hanoi will be cloudy with scattered rain; fog and light mist will appear in the early morning, clearing up in the afternoon with sunshine. Southeast wind at level 2-3. Lowest temperature 19-21 degrees Celsius, highest temperature 25-27 degrees Celsius.

Ho Chi Minh City: Sunny during the day; no rain at night, scattered showers and thunderstorms in the late afternoon and evening. Northeast wind, force 2-3. Lowest temperature 24-26°C, highest temperature 32-34°C.
