Amazon CEO Andrew Jassy believes that AI agents — tools that can perform tasks automatically, instead of humans — and generative AI systems like chatbots will lead to some types of jobs requiring fewer workers.

In an internal memo to employees, the Amazon boss said that the deployment of AI Agents and Generative AI will change the way they work. He also admitted that it is difficult to know the impact over time, but predicted that in the next few years, the company's workforce will decrease.

By the end of 2024, Amazon is hiring 1.5 million people globally, with about 350,000 people working in office jobs such as software engineers and marketing.

Recently, many technology leaders have warned that the wave of unemployment caused by AI will be worse. Anthropic CEO Dario Amodei even predicted that AI could “eliminate” about half of basic office jobs.

Mr. Jassy believes that in the future, there will be billions of AI Agents, infiltrating every organization, business and every field. It helps people do more things, from shopping, planning trips ... "Many agents are not yet developed but they will appear and appear very quickly," he said.

However, along with the warning, the Amazon CEO also gave advice to those who are afraid of AI taking their jobs. That is, "be curious about AI, educate yourself, attend conferences, participate in training courses, use and experiment with AI whenever possible, and 'brainstorm' with your team to find ways to serve customers faster and better."

Last weekend, UK Technology Minister Peter Kyle also called on British workers to “act now” to embrace AI technology or risk losing their jobs and being left behind by those who are already using AI. He said people are hesitant but in fact, using AI is simpler than they think, while bringing more benefits than expected.

“People don’t need to be trained in quantum physics,” Kyle said. “They need to be trained in the basics of how AI works, how to interact with it, and explore all the potential it brings to you personally in the workplace.”
