On the evening of December 3rd, in an interview with VTC News, Lieutenant Colonel Doan Van Quoi – Deputy Head of the Traffic Police Department (PC08), Ho Chi Minh City Police, stated that after 10 days of reviewing the coordination plan between the Ho Chi Minh City Traffic Police Department and the police of districts and counties, including Thu Duc City, it was found that the city's residents generally complied with and highly agreed with the regulation "if you have drunk alcohol, do not drive."
Many people are surprised when they are subjected to a breathalyzer test during the daytime.
"When there are parties or gatherings, many people are more conscious and proactively use public transportation such as Grab, taxis, or hire drivers to pick them up and drop them off when consuming alcohol, or refuse alcohol altogether. This is a positive change that is spreading very quickly in people's awareness."
"The purpose of the comprehensive alcohol concentration checks conducted day and night recently is because human lives are paramount. The aim is to minimize traffic accidents related to alcohol consumption, especially with many year-end parties and New Year's Day approaching," shared a leader of PC08.
According to Lieutenant Colonel Doan Van Quoi, Deputy Head of the Traffic Police Department (PC08) of the Ho Chi Minh City Police, the Ho Chi Minh City Traffic Police's alcohol testing teams will now change their deployment methods to suit different times, locations, and routes.
Earlier, starting at 8 PM on November 24th, Ho Chi Minh City traffic police simultaneously launched a campaign to check for alcohol and stimulants among road users throughout the city.
Authorities conduct daytime alcohol level checks on Nguyen Huu Canh Street, District 1.
According to statistics from the Ho Chi Minh City Traffic Police Department, from November 24th to December 1st, authorities inspected 45,404 vehicles (15,403 cars and 30,001 motorbikes). As a result, 1,380 cases (48 cars and 1,332 motorbikes) were found to have violated regulations regarding alcohol and stimulant use. Among these, there were 2 cases of car drivers testing positive for drugs, 6 cases of motorbike drivers testing positive for drugs, and 1 case of a motorbike driver testing positive for both drugs and alcohol.
According to the plan, from November 24th until before the Lunar New Year 2024, 10 task forces (a combination of the Ho Chi Minh City Police Traffic Department, traffic police and public order forces from districts, Thu Duc City, and local police) will be deployed throughout Ho Chi Minh City.
Each day will be divided into approximately 4 shifts, with each patrol and control shift lasting 6 hours and involving about 20 officers/units/shifts. The locations for checking for drunk driving violations will be continuously and flexibly changed to ensure optimal effectiveness and avoid missing any areas.
