The Dai Phan ceremony, known as Hi Thai Van in the San Diu language, means the largest gathering where aspiring shamans present themselves to the village. It is also the highest promotion ceremony for shamans, elevating them to the rank of Dai Phan (level 4 shaman).

The traditional Dai Phan Festival, while varying in locality, essentially begins with a procession of the village's guardian deity, the erection of the phan pole (a ceremonial pole), soong co singing, sword climbing (or knife climbing), wading through burning coals, and the bestowal of official decrees and titles upon the shaman. The Dai Phan Festival was born out of a fundamental need of life, passed down through generations, and has become a unique spiritual and cultural activity of the San Diu people. The festival is held at the beginning of the new year to pray for peace and prosperity for the villagers, favorable weather, bountiful harvests, and the warding off of evil spirits. During the Dai Phan Festival, the shaman recites books about the history, origins, and migration of the San Diu people, and the difficulties they faced crossing rivers and seas to reach new lands. From this, not only the person being promoted but also all participants can gain a deeper understanding of history and origins, raising awareness in preserving ancient stories and maintaining the good customs and traditions of the San Diu people.
At the Dai Phan festival, after the ceremonial part, the festivities begin with folk games. This is an opportunity for people to have fun after days of hard work. The festival is not bound by religious rituals, age, or gender, but rather by everyday activities, allowing everyone to freely and equally participate in typical folk games such as lion dance, tug-of-war, wrestling, and Soong Co singing. During the festival days, anyone who comes to celebrate is considered a valued guest, invited to meals and lodging by the villagers.
In 2022, the Great Feast of the San Diu people was recognized by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism as a National Intangible Cultural Heritage.
