Unlike the bustling atmosphere of nearby spiritual tourist areas and attractions, Duyen Ninh Pagoda (Tay Hoa Lu ward), located right on the Trang An - Bai Dinh route, possesses a serene, tranquil beauty imbued with the spirit of a thousand years of history.
According to historical records, Duyen Ninh Pagoda (also known as Thu Pagoda) was built during the Dinh - Early Le Dynasty, around the 10th century. It was once a place of recreation and Buddhist worship for the princesses of the Dinh - Le period.

Here, Princess Lê Thị Phất Ngân, daughter of King Lê Đại Hành, made her vows and married General Lý Công Uẩn (later King Lý Thái Tổ). Later, it was also at this place that she gave birth to Prince Lý Phật Mã (later King Lý Thái Tông).
When King Ly Thai Tong quelled internal rebellions and foreign invasions, he renamed the temple Duyen Ninh Temple. Queen Le Thi Phat Ngan came here to practice Buddhism and look after the tomb of her father, King Le Dai Hành, in his final years.
And it was at this very temple that the Queen brought together many couples, young men and women, leading to their marriages. From then on, Duyen Ninh Temple became the most famous temple for praying for love and finding a spouse in the ancient capital of Hoa Lu.

Because of the legends associated with the marriages of kings and royalty, for thousands of years, the people of Ninh Binh and many neighboring areas have believed that this is a blessed land to pray for love and family peace.
Duyen Ninh Pagoda doesn't boast a massive scale or ostentatious luxury, but rather attracts attention with its distinctive traditional architecture of the Northern Delta region. The pagoda is situated in a "mountain-backed, water-facing" orientation, with its back against a majestic limestone mountain range and its front facing a field and a winding river.
Stepping through the triple-arched gate, visitors feel as if they have entered another world , separated from the hustle and bustle. The sound of the temple bells echoing against the mountainside creates a strangely peaceful feeling.

Ms. Tran Thi Tam (70 years old), a vendor at Duyen Ninh Pagoda, said: "Right after New Year's Eve, hundreds, even thousands of people came to worship at the pagoda, most of them young people. From the 1st to the 5th day of Tet, the parking lots were packed with cars every day, even on the grassy area around the pagoda."
According to observations by reporters from the Culture Newspaper, on the morning of the 5th day of the Lunar New Year, many young people visited temples to enjoy the spring scenery and pray for good fortune. Many personally prepared offerings and presented flowers to pray for a peaceful year and for their wishes regarding marital happiness to come true.
Today, Duyen Ninh Pagoda has become a must-visit destination for young people and those seeking marital happiness when visiting Ninh Binh. Furthermore, as the birthplace of King Ly Thai Tong, many couples struggling with infertility also come here to pray for children or for peace and harmony in their family life.
