Unique game of scrolling letters: "Heaven - Earth - Greatness"

As part of the " Thanh Hoa City - Hoi An City Cultural Week" in 2024, on the morning of April 29th, a "Heaven - Earth - Peace" calligraphy performance took place at Hoi An Park. This is a traditional cultural feature of Ve Yen village, Quang Thang ward (Thanh Hoa City). The calligraphy performance was presented by the Traditional Arts and Culture Club of Quang Thang ward.

Ve Yen village, Quang Thang ward, was originally an agricultural village but has a tradition of martial arts. The martial spirit of the people of Ve Yen village has been passed down from generation to generation.

According to documents preserved by the villagers of Ve Yen, it is clearly stated: "The game of running with the words 'Peace and Prosperity' combined with martial arts performances has been introduced to the village a long time ago."

After the successful August Revolution of 1945, every year on the 7th and 8th of January, during the Yen Ve village festival, there is a game of running with the words "Peace and Prosperity Under Heaven".

The "Peace and Prosperity" lettering display, combined with martial arts performances, aims to educate the community about the spirit of chivalry, preparing them to defend the homeland and expressing the desire for peace and prosperity for the country.

Since then, the "Heaven - Earth - Peace" scrolling game has become a traditional cultural feature of Ve Yen village and is often performed during major festivals in Quang Thang ward, Thanh Hoa city, and Thanh Hoa province.

The participants in the word-running game include the flag bearer, the drum bearer, generals and soldiers with swords, staffs, large flags, etc.

...and were divided into two teams, blue and red, lined up in a column.

The teams entered the field to perform the ritual of paying homage to the village's guardian deity, following the drumbeat.

To express the fighting spirit of our army and people and the desire for peace and prosperity for the country, the teams ran in parallel, spelling out "Thiên - Hạ" (Heaven - Earth).

After returning to the assembly point, the red team, running towards the words "Heaven and Earth," shouted "Heaven and Earth." The blue team, running towards the words "Peace and Prosperity," shouted "Peace and Prosperity."

Next, the two teams switch positions and run the text for each other.

The green team displayed the words "Heaven and Earth" and shouted "Heaven and Earth!"

The red team ran the words "Thai Binh" and shouted "Thai Binh".

Then, the teams ran into the spiral and returned to the assembly point...

...to continue running, chanting the four words "Peace and Prosperity Under Heaven". While running, shout "Peace and Prosperity Under Heaven".

Finally, the two teams arranged themselves to form the four words "Thiên - Hạ - Thái - Bình" (Heaven - World - Peace). Simultaneously, they stood up and sat down, creating a wave-like motion that formed the words "Thiên - Hạ - Thái - Bình".
