As a land rich in revolutionary tradition, emerging from bombs, war with much pain and loss, Vinh Hoa today is strongly reviving, becoming a bright spot in the emulation movement of labor and production, people's lives are constantly improving.

Revolutionary Land

We returned to Vinh Tien hamlet in late November, following the straight asphalt road to the house of Vietnamese Heroic Mother Vo Thi Xung, a living witness to the time of bombs and bullets. We were greeted with a gentle smile, even though she was over 90 years old, her voice was still hearty. She recalled with emotion that at that time, this area was a fierce war zone. Despite facing danger, some households, including her family, still connected with the revolutionary base, supporting the news and supplying food to the troops. The house was burned down by the enemy three times, but her mother was determined to rebuild it, because in addition to making a living, she also sheltered and supported revolutionary soldiers.

“The children’s father worked as a liaison officer, while the mother stayed home to farm, grind rice, and shelter revolutionaries. When the enemy swept through, searched, and dropped bombs, the mother and children hid in the basement, waiting for the bombs to pass. Thus, the children’s childhood grew up with the sound of bombs and bullets and the silhouettes of the soldiers in the backyard that they accidentally encountered. Perhaps, it was fate that later on, my two children were enlightened and determined to follow the call of the revolution to fight the resistance like their brothers and uncles,” said Xung’s mother.

With its rich history and culture, Vinh Hoa land not only marks precious traditions but also witnesses important moments in the nation's journey of building and defending the country. Half a century after the country's reunification, the heroic values ​​of our ancestors still live on as a strong source of motivation and pride for generations of Vinh Hoa people. The names Cay Bang, Xeo Can, the anti-American canal, Xeo Ke, Lot 12, Bo Dua... have entered the history of the revolutionary struggle of the Vinh Hoa people, becoming glorious and indelible feats.

During the years of the resistance war against the US to save the country, the complicated situation of the war forced the armed forces base of Rach Gia province to move through many localities in the province. Bo Dua Hamlet was the place where the command post was located for the longest time. Here, the leaders of Rach Gia Provincial Military Command decided many major policies and combat plans, including the plan to coordinate operations in the Mau Than Spring Campaign in 1968. After the campaign, the enemy launched many sweeps and a series of bombings along the Cai Be River from Rach Gia to U Minh. Bombs and artillery hit the Rach Gia Provincial Military Command base, causing heavy losses. Many officers and commanders of the armed forces remained forever on this land.

After the war, the sacrifices and losses of the people of Vinh Hoa were countless. Therefore, the Provincial Armed Forces Memorial Site and historical sites in the commune were built and inaugurated. This became a "red address" to educate the younger generation about revolutionary traditions. The people of Vinh Hoa commune are always proud of the heroic tradition and remember the great contributions of the previous generation. On holidays and Tet, today's generation gathers to offer incense and flowers to commemorate and pay tribute to the heroes and martyrs who sacrificed for the independence and freedom of the nation.

The homeland is flourishing

Promoting the local tradition, the Party Committee, government and people of Vinh Hoa commune joined hands and unanimously overcame difficulties, competed in labor, production, and followed Uncle Ho's teachings, creating comprehensive development steps. Civil works were invested in and solidly built. Green fields stretched out next to spacious houses, creating a bright picture of the new countryside. According to the Standing Deputy Secretary of the Vinh Hoa Commune Party Committee, Truong Trong The, up to now, most of the inter-hamlet roads have been asphalted and concreted; 100% of people have means of transportation, many households have become well-off, bought cars, and built spacious houses. "With diligence and hard work, Vinh Hoa people are enthusiastic about working, actively applying science and technology to production, developing many inter-cropping models, aquaculture... bringing high economic efficiency", said Mr. Truong Trong The.

Currently, the commune has 84 enterprises and 1,400 stable business households, creating jobs for many local workers. The commune is always interested in leading many solutions to guide people to convert crops and livestock suitable to the soil of each locality, contributing to increasing income in a sustainable direction. Up to now, the average income per capita has reached 70 million VND/person/year, an increase of 10 million VND compared to 2020. Multidimensional poor households account for more than 3%, near-poor households account for 2.4%. The health insurance coverage rate is 100% of the population; people participating in voluntary social insurance reach 11.8% of the labor force.

The commune focuses on taking care of social security and people's lives. From 2020 to now, 307 new houses have been built and repaired for poor households, 72 houses for near-poor households... with a total cost of over 20 billion VND. Ms. Danh Thi Muoi, residing in Vinh Hoa commune, said: "After the war, people's lives in this area were difficult, many families could not afford to send their children to school. Now, the socio-economy is increasingly developing, not only are people's lives stable, houses are solid, but spiritual life is also improved."

Remembering the origin, being proud of the heroic land, each cadre, party member and people of Vinh Hoa today continue to promote the fine traditions of their homeland, learn from the revolutionary examples of previous generations; strengthen solidarity and unity within the Party, train political mettle and revolutionary ethics, overcome difficulties, strive to fulfill the goals and tasks of the resolution of the 1st Vinh Hoa Commune Party Congress, term 2025 - 2030, together continue to write the heroic epic on the path of innovation, worthy of the heroic homeland.
