Revolutionary land
We visited Vinh Tien hamlet in late November, following the straight asphalt road to the home of Heroic Vietnamese Mother Vo Thi Xung, a living witness to a time of bombing and shelling. She greeted us with a gentle smile; although over 90 years old, her voice was still vibrant. She fondly recalled the fierce war that raged in the area. Despite facing danger, some households, including hers, maintained contact with the revolutionary base, providing information and supplies to the soldiers. Her house was destroyed by enemy bombs three times, but she was determined to rebuild it, because besides making a living, she also sheltered and protected revolutionary soldiers.

“Their father was a messenger, their mother stayed home farming, milling rice, and sheltering revolutionaries. Whenever the enemy raided, searched, and dropped bombs, the mother and children would hide in the bunker, waiting for the bombs to pass. That’s how their childhood unfolded, filled with the deafening sounds of bombs and bullets, and the familiar faces of the soldiers they would occasionally encounter in the backyard. Perhaps it was destiny that later led my two children to awaken to the revolutionary cause and decide to follow the call to arms, joining the resistance like their comrades,” Mrs. Xung said.
With its rich history and culture, the land of Vinh Hoa not only bears the mark of precious traditions but also witnesses important moments in the nation's journey of building and defending the country. Half a century after the reunification of the country, the heroic values of our ancestors still live on as a powerful source of motivation and pride for generations of Vinh Hoa people. Names like Cay Bang, Xeo Can, the anti-American canal, Xeo Ke, Lot 12, Bo Dua... have gone down in the history of the revolutionary struggle of the people of Vinh Hoa, becoming glorious and unforgettable victories.
During the years of the war against the US, the complex situation of the war forced the armed forces base in Rach Gia province to move through many localities within the province. Bo Dua Hamlet was the location of the command post for the longest period. Here, the leaders of the Rach Gia Provincial Military Command made many major decisions and operational plans, including the plan for coordinating operations during the 1968 Tet Offensive. After the campaign, the enemy launched numerous sweeps and bombing raids along the Cai Be River from Rach Gia down to U Minh. Bombs and artillery shells hit the Rach Gia Provincial Military Command base, causing heavy losses. Many officers and commanders of the armed forces perished on this land.
After the war, the sacrifices and losses of the people of Vinh Hoa were immeasurable. Therefore, the Provincial Armed Forces Memorial Area and other historical sites in the commune were built and inaugurated. These have become "red addresses" for educating the younger generation about revolutionary traditions. The people of Vinh Hoa commune are always proud of their heroic traditions and remember the immense contributions of previous generations. On holidays and festivals, the present generation gathers to offer incense and flowers in remembrance and gratitude to the heroes and martyrs who sacrificed their lives for the independence and freedom of the nation.
Homeland flourishes
Building on local traditions, the Party Committee, government, and people of Vinh Hoa commune have joined forces to overcome difficulties, compete in labor and production, and follow Uncle Ho's teachings, creating a comprehensive development. Public infrastructure projects have been invested in and built solidly. Lush green fields stretch out, interspersed with spacious houses, creating a vibrant picture of the new rural area. According to Truong Trong The, Deputy Secretary of the Vinh Hoa Commune Party Committee, most inter-hamlet roads have been asphalted or concreted; 100% of the people have means of transportation, and many households have become well-off, buying cars and building spacious houses. "With their diligence and hard work, the people of Vinh Hoa are enthusiastic about labor, actively applying science and technology to production, developing many intercropping and aquaculture models... bringing high economic efficiency," said Mr. Truong Trong The.

Currently, the commune has 84 businesses and 1,400 business households operating stably, creating jobs for many local workers. The commune consistently focuses on leading and guiding people to switch to crops and livestock suitable to the local soil conditions, contributing to sustainable income improvement. To date, the average per capita income has reached 70 million VND/person/year, an increase of 10 million VND compared to 2020. The percentage of households classified as poor according to the multidimensional poverty standard is over 3%, and the percentage of near-poor households is 2.4%. The health insurance coverage rate is 100% of the population; the percentage of people participating in voluntary social insurance is 11.8% of the workforce.
The commune focuses on social welfare and improving the lives of its people. From 2020 to the present, 307 houses have been newly built or renovated for poor households, and 72 houses for near-poor households... with a total cost of over 20 billion VND. Ms. Danh Thi Muoi, a resident of Vinh Hoa commune, said: “After the war, the lives of people in this area were difficult, and many families did not have the means to send their children to school. Now, with the socio-economic development, not only are people's lives stable and their houses sturdy, but their spiritual lives have also improved.”
Remembering our roots and proud of our heroic land, every cadre, Party member, and citizen of Vinh Hoa today continues to uphold the fine traditions of our homeland, learn from the revolutionary examples of previous generations; strengthen unity and cohesion within the Party, cultivate political acumen and revolutionary ethics, overcome difficulties, and strive to fulfill the goals and tasks of the Resolution of the First Vinh Hoa Commune Party Congress, term 2025-2030, together writing another heroic epic on the path of renewal, worthy of our heroic homeland.
