The motorbike taxi team transporting passengers in the valley and their special way of "repaying" nature

Kho Muong village, Thanh Son commune, old Ba Thuoc district (now Pu Luong commune, Thanh Hoa province) is located more than 150km from Hanoi city. This is a village with a large population of Thai people, located deep in the valley in the core area of Pu Luong Nature Reserve.

Over the years, with its beautiful natural scenery, cool climate and peaceful stilt houses, Kho Muong has become an attractive destination, attracting a large number of tourists, especially foreign visitors.

However, the road leading to Kho Muong village is still difficult. To get to the village, visitors have to overcome more than 1km of steep, narrow and dangerous pass, so many people choose to walk.

Seeing the hardships tourists face while walking, local people took advantage of the opportunity to work as motorbike taxi drivers to earn extra income. However, in the beginning, this activity caused a disturbance in public order.

Thanh Son Commune Police (old) advised the Commune Security and Order Steering Committee to build and launch the model of "Self-managed tourist motorbike taxi for security and order".

Since the model came into operation, the motorbike taxi team has worked more professionally and friendly, contributing to building a civilized tourism image, preserving the traditional beauty of the local people.

The model is deployed under the management of the Commune People's Committee and direct professional guidance from the Commune Police and Village Management Board.

In June 2022, the model officially launched with 90 members voluntarily registering to participate.

Mr. Ngan Van Cuong (64 years old, member of the motorbike taxi team) said that since the model was implemented, security and order have been ensured, and there is no longer a situation of fighting over customers like before.

According to Mr. Cuong, each trip (round trip) is charged 100,000 VND. After each trip, the driver voluntarily pays 10,000 VND to the village fund. This money is used to repair the village infrastructure such as building roads, repairing the cultural house, etc.

Mr. Cuong added that over the years, Kho Muong people have always felt grateful to nature for giving them beautiful landscapes, helping them earn more income from tourism and making life less difficult.

To build a beautiful tourism image in the hearts of tourists, each member of the motorbike taxi team, in addition to transporting passengers, always maintains a friendly and hospitable attitude, and at the same time introduces tourists to the history and traditional culture of the village.

In particular, he also said that deducting 10,000 VND after each passenger trip is considered a way to "repay" nature for giving them a better life.

“There are days when we travel a lot, each person can take three trips, earning about 300,000 VND. On holidays, the number of visitors is higher, so income also increases. We are very happy because thanks to the natural landscape, this place has become an attractive tourist destination.

For tourism to develop further, we hope the road leading to the valley will be invested in and improved to welcome more tourists," said Mr. Cuong.

Mr. Pham Van Tuan, a tourist from Hac Thanh ward, Thanh Hoa province, said that Kho Muong has beautiful scenery, friendly people, especially the professional motorbike taxi team, giving him a feeling of closeness every time he comes here to visit.

According to the leader of the Department of Culture and Society of Pu Luong commune, for many years, motorbike taxi activities in Kho Muong have been managed by the commune police force and the village management board, thanks to which security and order have been ensured.

The leader also said that currently the road down to Kho Muong still has many difficulties. Many times the locality has proposed building a road down to the village center, but it has not been resolved due to land procedure problems.

"Kho Muong village is in the core zone of Pu Luong Nature Reserve, so the application procedure must be approved by the Central Government. Therefore, the road to Kho Muong has not been implemented yet," said the leader.
