Associate Professor Dr. Truong Ngoc Kiem, Director of the High-Tech and Innovation Park, Vietnam National University, Hanoi, shared: On May 16th, Vietnam National University, Hanoi, solemnly celebrated its 120th anniversary (May 16, 1906 - May 16, 2026) and received the First-Class Labor Medal. At the ceremony, General Secretary and President To Lam assigned many tasks to Vietnam National University, Hanoi, including the task of becoming an elite university, a leading force in the development of science and technology, innovation, and digital transformation, making a significant contribution to Vietnam's double-digit economic growth.

Therefore, our Party has issued very important strategic decisions such as Resolution 57 of the Politburo on breakthroughs in the development of science, technology, innovation and national digital transformation; Resolution 71 on breakthroughs in the development of education and training; Resolution 80 on the development of Vietnamese culture, etc. The guidelines are clear, the institutions are opening up, and resources have been and are being prepared. The decisive issue now is action, decisive, effective, and thorough action, to realize the aspiration for high development in the coming decades to lift the country out of backwardness and rise to the group of advanced developed countries by 2045" - Excerpt from the speech of General Secretary and President To Lam at the ceremony commemorating the 120th anniversary of the founding of Hanoi National University.
"This mission not only provides direction for Hanoi National University, but also inspires the entire Vietnamese higher education system," Associate Professor Dr. Truong Ngoc Kiem expressed.

Specifically, science and technology, and innovation have been identified by the Party and the State as key priorities in entering the new era. Associate Professor Dr. Truong Ngoc Kiem believes that, as leading universities, Hanoi National University and other universities, in addition to their mission of training high-quality human resources, also serve as centers for connecting and transferring knowledge. Simultaneously, they act as hubs for bringing creative knowledge from universities to businesses and localities; serving as a central bridge connecting universities, the State, and businesses, so that the results of creative and scientific and technological activities within universities are translated into value and applied in national development.

"As the focal point for innovation activities in the High-Tech Park and innovation sector, Hanoi National University has identified two immediate tasks. First, we need to review the systems and results of our scientific and technological innovation activities over the past years, in order to assess and urgently promote collaboration and bring research results to serve local communities and businesses. Currently, local communities and businesses need innovation activities, but connections remain limited. Secondly, as the focal point, we have the responsibility to connect domestic and international scientific and technological activities with local communities and businesses to bring the products of our lecturers and scientists to serve overall development," said Associate Professor Dr. Truong Ngoc Kiem.
According to Associate Professor Dr. Truong Ngoc Kiem, in the context of a country still facing difficulties and limited resource development, investing in strong research groups and outstanding scientists is essential. This investment aims to attract outstanding scientists from abroad to contribute, invest in domestic research groups, enhance capabilities, and unleash the intellectual potential and advantages of faculty members, thereby quickly making science and technology, innovation, and creativity the driving force and key factor in national development.

Professor Vu Minh Giang, former Vice Director of Hanoi National University and Chairman of the Science and Training Council of Hanoi National University, expressed his deep emotion at the presence and special attention of General Secretary and President To Lam, along with other Party and State leaders, towards Hanoi National University in the cause of higher education in the country.
Recalling the past, Professor Vu Minh Giang shared: On November 15, 1945, in the context of a newly independent country facing countless difficulties, President Ho Chi Minh still took the time to attend the first opening ceremony of the Vietnam National University. This was a message with profound symbolic significance regarding the revolutionary state's view on valuing intellectuals and talented individuals.
According to Professor Vu Minh Giang, in order to successfully carry out the tasks assigned by General Secretary and President To Lam, the University needs to determine its direction, resources, and human resources. General Secretary and President To Lam mentioned the special mechanism many times, which is one of the solutions that will help Hanoi National University develop rapidly, intensely, and achieve breakthroughs.
For example, in the field of finance, there must be breakthroughs in financial management. If salaries remain the same as in all other universities, it will not attract talent. Salaries for scientists and lecturers must be equivalent to those at top-tier universities worldwide; only then will we be able to attract talented individuals.
Regarding the warnings from General Secretary and President To Lam about issues such as falling behind the rapid development of science and technology, Professor Tran Thi Thanh Tu, Head of the Science and Innovation Committee of Hanoi National University, emphasized that this is an extremely valuable and timely directive and warning, especially for intellectuals and scientists who are grasping the future of science and technology.
For his part, Professor Nguyen Ngoc Minh, lecturer at the Faculty of Natural Sciences, Vietnam National University, Hanoi, and a scientist who was awarded the Ta Quang Buu Prize in 2016, also emphasized: The team of scientists at Vietnam National University, Hanoi, deeply understands the responsibility of intellectuals today, not only to publish research works or impart knowledge in the classroom, but also to contribute to solving major national problems, promoting the country's competitiveness, protecting the cultural and humanistic values of the nation, and preparing the intellectual foundation for future generations...
