On July 8th, speaking at the workshop "Authenticity and Traceability - A Driving Force for Sustainable Development of Vietnam's Digital Economy" organized by the National Data Center (Department C12, Ministry of Public Security ) in collaboration with the National Data Association (NDA) in Hanoi, Colonel Pham Minh Tien, Deputy Director of the National Data Center (Ministry of Public Security), stated that in the current period, as the digital economy is becoming one of the pillars of the country's development, the requirement for authenticity, transparency, and traceability of goods not only serves state management but is also a prerequisite for enhancing domestic market confidence and international integration.

In the first five months of 2025, authorities nationwide handled over 40,000 cases of smuggling, counterfeit goods, and substandard products, with total fines reaching 6,500 billion VND. Particularly concerning was the issue of counterfeit goods in the food and pharmaceutical sectors, which directly impact the health and lives of citizens.

In the context of trade fraud being a pressing issue for society as a whole, traceability allows consumers to quickly and transparently verify the origin of products, clearly distinguishing between counterfeit, fake, and substandard goods. On a larger scale, with a traceability system based on domestic technology (blockchain, digital identification, multi-purpose QR codes, etc.), Vietnam can control domestic data, reduce dependence on foreign platforms, and maintain data sovereignty .

As Vietnam boosts international trade and exports, proving the origin, quality, and production process of products through a traceability system will reassure international partners, while also strengthening domestic market monitoring capabilities and protecting the rights of consumers and legitimate businesses.

According to experts, traceability is the foundation for digital governance, digital policies, and the development of an open data ecosystem, helping the government formulate effective policies, support businesses in innovation, and enhance consumer confidence in domestic products. Traceability contributes to increased transparency, traceability, and digital trust; these are essential elements for e-commerce, agricultural exports, smart logistics, and modern supply chain management.

In particular, traceability provides accurate, continuous, and multidimensional data from input to output, helping businesses manage risks, forecast production, coordinate warehousing, and control quality more effectively. It is also a tool to support comprehensive digital transformation in the production, distribution, and consumption of products.

Resolution No. 57-NQ/TW dated December 22, 2024, of the Politburo on breakthroughs in science and technology development, innovation, and national digital transformation has posed the challenge of digital transformation for goods and products. The resolution clearly states the need to promote the consumption of products and services in the digital environment, ensure the digital economy in all sectors and fields, and implement policies to encourage businesses to invest in digital transformation… Implementing digital transformation means giving goods and products a new, more modern, more easily connectable, and most importantly, verifiable appearance, building consumer trust.

In the context of the nationwide digital transformation and economic digitalization, the application of technology for traceability is mandatory and must be a comprehensive policy from top to bottom, with synchronized management from the central to local levels and applicable to all businesses. This includes identifying all organizations, businesses, and products, verifying product information, managing supply chain operations, and implementing product lifecycle traceability and investigation.

Implementing modern traceability solutions, applying advanced technology, and relying on the unified and synchronized national data platforms is a crucial solution to improve management efficiency, ensure market safety, and enhance transparency throughout the entire supply chain. This, in turn, contributes to sustainable development and strengthens the competitiveness of Vietnam's digital economy.
